Available today, so they say. Was browsing their site and saw this listing, suprised me as I was unaware it had been released so I went over to SonyStyleUS to check and there it is, but still in pre-order with scheduled shipping the 21st of this month. $7499 from the source so if you're interested then renting one first might be a good idea.

It doesn't seem to be so expensive compared to 500/4. Or am I mistaken?

Just like the previous version, don’t lose the lens hood. It costs $1,100 to replace! No, I’m not kidding.

That is a lot of money.

At B&H you can buy a Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/2.8G ED VR II Lens for $5,799.00.

$1700 less and from a highly reliable source.

It doesn't take a lot of brains to suspect that anybody wanting a kit including the highest quality fast long primes will save more than the cost of a D800 by buying the nikon brand.

Given that the nikon D800 uses the best sony sensor with sony colors and VR is going to be better than steady shot for the longest lens you really do have to love SLT to stick with Sony for this section of the market.

Yaerlier I had A900, now A99, and I don't really regret

I shoot mainly nature and I had Minolta 200/2.8 and 400/4.5 and 70-400 SSM, sold then all and now getting instead of them only one lens. I Stilla have 70-300 SSM

Yes. For me it's funny because my most expensive lens (50/1.4) was about 40% cheaper than my camera. And I have the cheapest Sony camera that was available.

The Nikon is a pound heavier than the comparable Sony and Canon. That makes a difference for a lens that is at the fringes of being hand holdable.
