A still life is a work of art depicting mostly inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which may be either natural or man-made (drinking glasses, books, vases, jewelry, coins, pipes, and so on).

Thank you for creating the theme of "still life" - with these wonderful images.
I recently searched for such a thread and could not find one.

Please make sure to announce the creation of this thread here. It should be included in the "Themed Views" index.

Beautiful images and an art in itself - in many ways it's like Record photography but with the additional element of artistic interpretation - something these first postings show us in abundance! Something for me to try and get my head and creative eye round (when I find it!).

Thanks for creating the thread - and with such strong images to start it with.

Best regards, Neil.

waldo_posth: thank you, I have made request you mentioned.

Neil: Thank you very much. Regarding creative eye good luck with finding one or two, I am still looking for mine.
Now seriously speaking, you should definitely start Record Photography theme as you have so many images suitable for it. I am sure other would contribute as well.

This still life of "squash and radish couple" wasn't that still at all. I had a hard time "stilling" the squash. It was very heavy in upper part and did not want to stand still. However, radish was very cooperative.

Well balanced! I've used all kinds of hidden methods to stop veggies rolling away from a photo (some do indeed to be rather camera-shy )

I rather like the B&W tones (nice black backround!) but the little highlight 'floating' under the squash is a bit distracting but easy to clone away. I think maybe it is a bit of stray light hitting the end of the stem.

Thanks Mike! I have also used few paper towels to balance the squash as it was very active and restless .
Stem is gone and I like it more without it.

That's a big improvement.   I think I want to try some shots like these... What's your technique with the black background? Is it some kind of non-reflective material? I think you are using flash for the main light here?

    This was the set-up:
Light: indoor natural, window, strong noon sunlight, no flash
Background: nothing, brick tiles in distance not lit that much by strong window light
Subjects: in front of window very close to it

    Imperfect and nevertheless beautiful, Svjetlana!

I would imagine, though, that a b/w version would also be beautiful - but in a different way! (Sorry for being so insatiable).

    TFS!
