today i try for the first time the new sony telezoom the SAL70-400 SSM G II.
i went to the zoo here in the netherlands (blijdorp)

before i start i want to say , that it`s mine thought`s     , and feelings ,it`s not a special-laboratory test , just a day in the field

first the colour , i really like the white colour , and also that the orange stripe is gone on the lenshood.

when you zoom with this lens , its a goes a litlle bit heavier than the silver one , that is positive ,

what i notice , is that the lens is much faster than the silver one , how much i dont now , but for sure it`s faster.
also what`s is improved is when you chose your AF-POINT (local) its faster and more accurate , with the silver one when you chose the left or right AF-POINT it has sometime`s problems to get it in focus , with the new one it`s much better.

it works also very good on the A99 , but i think it`s faster on the A77
on the A99 the AF-D mode is working with this lens.

almost all the picture`s are taken with the lens wide open , and i think its performs really good at 400mm F5.6

my conclusion is: this is a outstanding/superb lens for wildlife/sports , razor-sharp , even with the lens wide open.
if you looking for a very good lens that have SSM
and personal i think this lens come`s very close near a fixed-lens 300mm/400mm

all the EXIF is in the picture , if there is anybody that want the RAW-FILE or high res-picture , please let me now

all picture`s are taken with the A77
all picture`s are taken with a monopod

maybe i haven`t all the answers at your questions , but i hope this topic is a positve step to your decision to go for this lens.
for me personal , i hope that sony forget that i have there lens
thanks for looking

Excellent images Gustav, the 100% crops speak volumes for the quality of this lens. I'm not qualified to comment further but your effort is commendable

I hope not.
I would rather see them aware of what value people like you bring in terms of product popularity; a single ad in one of the popular magazines is probably costing more than giving you a sample lens for free while benefits and promotional value is on your side my large magnitude.

Anyway, great captures and a big thanks for your sharing !

p.s.
when i had the silver lens, it was not so rare for the hood to fall off. Not sure if my sample was more problematic that the rest but does the hood fit tightly on the newer version?

Well, I'm sold. Anybody want to buy a silvery lens?

EDIT: jj, folks. My silver one isn't for sale.

Not yet at least.

That is sharp indeed. Hand held or on a tripod?

Indeed very impressive! Thanks for sharing!
I also curious about the hood - I have the same problem as Kiklop with the hood of the silver lens. It always falls down. Did they make it better?

Wow this is an amazing lens. Even at 100% it is razor sharp. Great pictures well done. Shows off the amazing optical performance of the lens.
