My first A-mount camera was a used Maxxum 3000i that lasted 3 days before something went wrong and it fried the external flash (completely melting it). The store was kind enough to not only take it back but offered me a Maxxum 7000i as a replacement for no additional charge.

Since then, every A-mount camera I've owned either been a 7x or 8x series camera:
7000i
800si
7D
A700
A850

I've picked up others along the way (HTsi, 5D) but never kept them long enough to count as "owned".

Is there an equivalent "Your First E-mount Camera" thread here? I'm surprised I can't find one. NEX-3 for me. Maybe there should be a "Your First FE-mount Camera" thread too. Unfortunately, I'm not there yet ... maybe one day.
NEX-3, 6 | A77ii, A55, A700 | Dynax 505si super | borrowed Maxxum 9 | many, many lenses ;-)

My first a-mount camera is Sony a37 but it's worth mentioning that two cameras that influenced me in a big way (possibly more so than all others combined) were actually Minoltas:

1. Konica Minolta Dimage Z2: do-it-all superzoom was great and fun to use.
2. Minolta XG-M: first film camera and first proper lens - 50/1.7 Rokkor, which really opened my eyes and got me deep into photography. Probably the biggest influence I have ever had from a piece of equipment.

When I was choosing a DSLR on a tight budget, I went for used a37 costing about 150 Euro. One of the reasons I picked it up was the ability to use Minolta lenses and part of me was happy to have a connection with Minolta again, in memory of those two not necessarily great but very engaging cameras and a fantastic lens. So the poll question could be answered with

"Sony (but deep down it was about Minolta)"

Alas, all lenses I bought for a37 up until this point are Sony, Sigma and Tamron lenses... but finally picking up Minolta 50/1.4 today to go with my new A-mount camera, the a850!

Welcome, Nikleo! Good to hear from you!
There are lots of cheap Minolta lenses available on eBay, so you can increase your collection as quickly as you like. See my lens reviews, if you like.
Good to see you've posted some of your pics here.

My 1st A mount was an A-57, it is on the injured list now, so the wife let me get an A-77ii, just picked up a minolta 80-200 G HS, plans are to wait till the A-99ii comes down in price. I love Sony!

Just bought an alpha 7 (same as maxxum 7 I guess) from ebay several days ago, it's my first a mount cmamera. I developed my interest towards it after I tried a minolta lens on my sony a7. So, I told myself, why not try a7's acestor, right?

Welcome to Dyxum, Berty

You know about our dedicated filmcamera sub-forum?
The Alpha name is the Japanese name, in the US it was indeed Maxxum and in Europe it was Dynax - in fact, Dyxum is named after Dynax and Maxxum.

First A-mount camera was a used 7000AF purchased in 1996 or so.

This was recently replaced by my second A-mount camera, a Maxxum 9.

Thank you. I am checking it now. In fact, another intention of buying alpha 7 is to have a try at film shooting and developing the film myself. A friend of mine know how to do it. And we have a dark laundry room to start.

I bought the first Sony model: A100. I think for the time it was a great camera with a great sensor (except for high ISO).

I bought a Maxxum 5 and a cheap-a$$ 35-80 f/3.5-4.5 "Quantaray" lens to take on my honeymoon in 2003. Stayed with A-mount until I moved to E-mount two months ago.

My history is Maxxum 5 -> Maxxum 7 (my favorite camera I've ever owned) -> A100 -> A700 -> A900 -> A7RIII

A7R III - FE 24-105/4, FE 70-300/4.5-5.6, FE 85/1.8, FE 55/1.8Z, LA-EA3 for MAF 20/2.8 and MAF 100/2.8 Macro
