Camera Talk : Sony's EVIL GUI revealed (a bit) in CP+

Even with a pancake, it is not really that compact.

Sorry, Frode, what you are saying is not making much sense now. Do you know why something like a 14-24 f/2.8 dSLR design is HUGE ? And why it weighs a whole Kilo (1000 gms), when the Focal lengths we are talking about are small 14mm to 24mm etc ? And why such an EVIL design with the same spec, and identical performance, might weigh maybe 150gms, with MUCH simpler and optically potentially better performing designs ?

Having owned an E-P1, the 14-42 kit lens compared to the body was huge, even with the folding lens design. A smaller sensor (compared to APS-C)and not exactly fast glass (f5.6), the E-P1 kit lens was still large compared to the body. The GF1 kit zoom looks to big, and still not fast glass.
It would be interesting to see how small fast glass can be made for these new breed of cameras. Looking at the lenses Sony displayed, I would assume this means the lenses will be BIG compared to the body.
With this limitation, large sensor camera of this type will be very limited. Look at it this way... I compared the Oly E-520 to the E-P1, and it really wasn't that much smaller. I guess it will be similar with the Sony EVIL (or not so EVF!) against say the a230 (with lens)

Not saying it's not a good design, but probably not as 'portable/small' as people think it might be.
It can't be to deepen the DoF.

The shear fact that you are shooting at 300mm or so indicates the subject is far away, and DoF also increases with increased subject to camera distance. So why are you purposely losing light?
