I am thinking about replacing my Sony A300 with A580. I have read imaging resource review for both cameras and it seems that A580 has slower shutter resonse (larger lag time) than A300.

Is this possible? Has any one else upgraded from A200/300/350 to A580 that could comment the results above?

@Tester: My a580 does not have a noticeable shutter lag, works like a charm. Actually the shutter is faster than my shadow.

Thanks for quick reply. You probably mean the difference when cameras are prefocused. How do they compare when prefocused but with flash enabled? That is the mode I use a lot :)

Regards, Tester :)

@Tester: I have never owned an a300. However, prefocused with flash enabled, the shutter is as quick as James May. Lightspeed.

I own a 580 and there is in fact serius shutter lag.
But only when using live view and build in flash.

I did not have this much lag in my a500.

I do not notice any shutter lag with my 580, neither with OVF nor with LiveView PDAF, CDAF is slow but just the focusing not the shutter actuation, of course.
It is my first DSLR however, so I can only compare with film camera, Dynax 7 and 7000 for instance, but the 580 is so fast that I often shoot before I even decided to press the button.

I also went from the a300 to the a580 and have not noticed any difference in shutter lag. I have found the a580 to be a significant improvement over the a300 in shooting low light images.

Mine definitely felt more laggy than my a500 with live view enabled (without flash).

Thank you all :) I guess that there really is some delay, but not as distracting to cause problems to most of you. If I may, I would like to ask you, how the cameras do compare if you ignore better sensor in A580. Does A580 focus quicker... What are the main improvements that would make it worth to upgrade (beside newer sensor better in high ISO)?

Well I have upgraded from a300 to a580 and wondered why it took me so long to pull the trigger on the buy.

Shutter lag?

Yes when using built in flash or attached flash. A few great shots have been ruined by the lag.

That being said, I am very glad I purchased the A580. I don't think there is another camera on the market that matches the features and performance for the price.
It is also probably the last OVF camera Sony will ever produce.

If you are staying with Sony, and want an upgrade that is not EVF, the A580 is for you.
Still in doubt? Read Carl Garrard's Review
