I've just bought a sony a580 and on careful inspection, I hear a faint ticking sound coming from the body. It's only possible when I put the camera real close to my ear. Has anyone of you experienced this same behavior from your camera? Is this of concern to the quality of the body?

Thank you

I have never noticed any ticking sound on my 580. Be interesting to hear from others.

It is the mechanical long exposure timer. Please remember to wind it once in a while with the big handle below the bottom.

My A580 makes it too, a faint ticking sound from the area about the Movie and Fn buttons, it sound like something spinning fast, it reminds me of the sound of the spinning HD in the first generation iPod Mini's.
My A580 is 1 month old, I do not think it is anything of concern.

It's the dimmer circuit for the LCD backlight. The A700 has it too. If you turn off the LCD or set the brightness to maximum, the buzz is gone.

Boring? Perhaps at least helpful which is refreshing!

... and I was going to suggest quickly submerging in a pail of water to be safe!

I think I have got similar noice issues with my A580. When I got it new, and turned it on, I noticed it imidiate.

I still hear it, I guess I got to get used to it.
Sony DSLR-A580 and NEX-5 with 'some' lenses.... I'm in denial that Lens Lust got me !

I have had my A700s for a few years and it has never occurred to me to listen to them . But sure enough, if I take one into a very quiet room and hold the LCD against my ear, I can hear a hum when the LCD is showing an image. You learn something new every day.

Not a ticking sound though. Are you sure it isn't a bomb?!

maybe my ears were deceiving me, but it does sound more like something is spinning inside.
Or has it changed it mode? :))
