Hi Folks,

I think the time has come to have my A700 serviced; it has also just started to develop 'front wheel skip' which may also be related to it jumping through images when in review mode. If I leave it, it will only get worse...

Does anyone in the UK have any positive experience with any repair outfits (or those to steer clear of)? I would also include Sony in this as well - any experience of non-warranty service would be appreciated.

Comes at a bad time as Pic-a-Song Challenge is here soon but I will need it much more in the coming months as well so I have to get it sorted as soon as possible.

Thanks for your help and feedback.

Best regards, Neil.

The place at Milton keynes springs to mind (I think Nigel might have used them before now).

There is a page on PhotoClubAlpha about them... http://www.photoclubalpha.com/useful-and-vital-links/uk-ex-minolta-camera-repair-workshop/

I've used these guys before to service my Fuji GX617 (yes not a Sony Alpha A700, but I have one of those too).

David Boyle was my contact. 1st class service.

I had rear wheel skip on my A700; drove me nuts. I 'fixed' it by using a hoover.

I took the nozzle attachment off the hose and cupped my hand around it and around the rear wheel to create a kind of seal. I just hoovered the wheel, stopping to turn the wheel and repeating the process - took 30 seconds and the rear wheel is now as good as new, no more skipping! Worth a try

Thanks for the info everyone - just a quick update.

It was dispatched to Camera Repair Centre today and I hope to have it back in 5 -7 days time. I will let you all know how the service/repair has gone but as it has only ever been in for 'service' once in 4 years (Sony replaced the rear screen very, very early on in it's life) and ias t's my only body it does get quite a hard life (though I do look after it as well it has to be said - no abuse!).

I have a couple of 'big events' coming up this year where it will be vital to have it working properly so I took the plunge and went for the service straight away. I've seen quite a few comments elsewhere where the 'fix' works for a while and then comes back - I wanted it 'sorted' first time I'm afraid (I have the same outlook on the analytical systems/kit at work - goes wrong, get it fixed otherwise it'll go wrong fully when you least expect/most need it!).

I now feel like I'm going through some sort of trial separation and can't wait to get it back...

Kind regards, Neil.

Hi Neil,

Sorry to hear about the problem with your A700! Hope you should
get it back from the service center quickly! In the meantime, maybe you roll out the old film camera and burn a roll or two! Maybe try a roll of B&W?

Kind regards,

kelly
