I rented a D3s recently and to be perfectly honest I was disappointed in the ISO performance I didn't find it to be as advanced as what I saw in reviews. I was really impressed with the jpg performance and metering.

Exactly. It's not about ego, it's about learning how to work with LIGHT.

In my opinion, the worst thing anyone can say to a photographer after you take a photo is, "what camera did you shoot that with?"

Cameras don't take photos. PHOTOGRAPHERS take photos.

And again, I can't emphasize this enough: lighting is far more important than any camera you will ever use.

Light is the photographer's paintbrush. Learn how to use it and you can't go wrong.

INVEST IN GOOD LIGHTS.

Me, I've many time a little smile when I come with my little A100, in the meddle of others photog with big equipement. I smile because I know than I will produce better result than 90% of them. I don't have a terrific technic, but I have the EYE!!!
So, Like Davey, I don't really care about any camera I use.

Marlon--you have some extremely nice work on your site.

Disappointed in the d3s? Really? Granted, the only reason I'd get the d3s is if I had a need for video. The d700 is basically a d3 minus a few features (but equivalent in iso performance)--I wince when I have to break out iso 2000 or greater with the a850....but not the d700.

I knew a guy that tried, but he got arrested and no one’s heard from him since.
A reliable Internet source told me that a lot of Pros that use Sony, paint Nikon on the front of the camera, just to get past security.

I'm sorry, but that doesn't sound the slightest bit believable to me.

From my own experience, security doesn't care WHAT you shoot with -- THEY CARE ABOUT CREDENTIALS.

I've shot dozens of concerts/festivals including bands like Radiohead, Coldplay, Jay-Z, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Sonic Youth, The Gossip, The Raveonettes, Vampire Weekend, Fleet Foxes, Kings Of Leon, etc., both on stage and in the pit, and not once has security ever looked at the make of my cameras.

The only people who notice cameras brands are other photographers.

I shoot at ISO 3200 - 6400 routinely with my A900. It's really not an issue with NR software. I find that I need to clean up noise any camera I use at 3200 or higher. I would rather have better IQ and larger image from 100-1600 then loose a bit of that punch for shots I need to shoot higher than 3200 ISO.

Super ISO comparisons are like comparing who's worst shot is worst instead of who's best shot is best.

A bit off topic, but who has processed A900/850 RAW files in Lightroom3? I find that does a much, much better with noise than LR2. My 7D RAW files processed in LR3 look cleaner than my 5DmkII files processed in LR2.

It does a great job on my high-ISO a100 photos.

I think taking for granted the FF support and continued lens releases you will find more and more Sony professionals out there.

It must be next to impossible to convince Nikon or Canon users to sell up and buy Sony, but future photographers will make choices based on other perameters. The a850 is a very comfortable camera to use, with great image quality, as is the a900... both for an astonishing price.

Give it time, focus on your work, eventually the camera you use wont matter.
