Computer eyewear

As far as i understand it, computer glasses are designed to help in better seeing what is on view on your monitor. They are thus more or less the same as standard reading glasses - but to be used at a somewhat longer distance then when reading a book or a paper. Thus, the diopter adjustment you need may differ somewhat then what you need for ordinary reading glasses.

In the link you mention the glasses are definitely yellowish. That may well be suitable for general office activity where the white background may give a contrast ratio that is higher then comfortable for working all day. For critical PP however i think it is not such a good idea. In PP you use the (calibrated) monitor to preview on the monitor as closely as possible the color you may expect in print. If you wear yellowish glasses when PP, you will most likely choose a colder white balance and that will then result in blueish prints.....

Thus, those glasses may have their justification for various kinds of activity, but their use with pixel editing applications might not be one of them.

Yea, I was wondering about getting them for myself, so I'd gladly hear an opinion about them. I'm also quite interested in knowing how they handle reflections, as the windows in my company are on a south-western side, so near end of the work I always have sunlight in the office (well, British weather prevents any harsh light, but I wouldn't want to be surprised by a spectacle of flares in front of my eyes).

I am near-sighted and a couple of years ago, I noticed I was having eye strain symptoms using the computer (8-10 hours per day). (I was wearing bi-focals at the time, the top part of the lens was for infinity and the bottom part was for close up (8 to 16 inches)). I wound up getting a new prescription for use with the computer. Optimized for seeing the monitors about 24 inches away. They have changed my life - that good.

I have a pair of Gunnars that I wear every day while working at the computer (I do a lot of coding)


I have 20/20 vision, so have never worn corrective eye-ware. I purchased these after doing some research, and to my surprise they worked. They help with eye strain after many hours in front of the computer, and they also cut some of the glare on the screen.

Mine are tinted yellow. I have to remember to take them off when I am adjusting white balance when editing photos, because the glasses tend to warm up my vision slightly. Once I am finished adjusting white balance, I put the glasses back on and continue editing.

I know many people who use these for gaming. It helps them out a lot. The guys i'm refering to play games for about 6-8hrs non-stop. They play competitively so for them these were a great treat.
