Getting an A77 to replace my KM 5D (severe black frame issue), A100 would be my backup.
Weird thing is, I'm not as excited upgrading as I would be if moving from film/digital 5 to 7.
Sony seem to dislike external controls and that's part of what I'd look for when upgrading.
What I like tho, is that the 2 things I'd hoped for (2 stops ISO and focus speed improvement) the A77 should have no problem with it.

Took a long while to decide on a final setup (body/lens combo).
- Decided against a FF setup due to costs & weight.
- When the time is up for my A100, I might just do with 1 body.
- Choice of lenses would be just
   1. Sony 16-50 f2.8 SSM (To replace Sigma 10-20, KM28-75)
   2. 70-200 f2.8 SSM (Sadly the range is not ideal on an APSC for me)
   3. When budget permits, I might get the STF. (Wanted this for too long but it's a "luxury lens" and had to be prioritised last)

Could have chosen A65 (size/weight) if it came with the kit lens as a combo.

Considering it; but I still recall my dismay upon handling the a700 -- my fingers kept landing the wrong places and hitting controls I didn't mean to, when I was just trying to hold the camera for framing/shooting.      I decided the a700 wasn't for me.

The a77 will need to have clean "holding" areas for my hands/fingers, where I don't have to worry about changing controls accidentally.

Consider the Sigma 50-150/2.8; it's intentionally an aps-c version of the classic 70-200. Here is a recent Dyxum thread from someone who considered, asked round, bought, then discussed. Dyxum is a GOOD place to look for this kind of info! Kudos to ilseholland and others who contributed to that thread.

If the constant 2.8 isn't critical, the new Sony 55-200 is widely reviewed as having stellar optics; "far better than any lens this price has any right to be" is the way one reviewer expressed it.

- Steve S.

p.s. -- Here'd be a killer lightweight 2.8 set for the a77/a65:
Tokina 11-16/2.8
Sony 16-50/2.8
Sigma 50-150/2.8
And if you need to go REALLY long (but "really long" + "2.8" means we have abandoned that whole "lightweight" bit...):
Sigma 120-300/2.8 ... if they every actually bring it to Alphamount, as they have said they would... :(

We're a very decisive group here, take a stand!

In this case I would check the "yes" next to the camera you consider to be your main camera, then in your post discuss how you intend to use the a77 (alongside what camera, for what reasons, etc.)

Again, my suggestion is to choose that yes, downgrading from a900 then explain in the post your reasons for choosing, which may not be a downgrade for you.

Manly, yes, but women can use it too!

Haven't decided yet whether to back up my a900 with the a77 or wait for the a99. Will try it out to see if I might like "less than full frame" for longer lenses again.

I won't buy it, I think. I'll probably wait for the next FF-bodies because I like my a850 so much.

the thing is, I currently use both my a900 and a550... there are some advantages to having both FF and APS-C bodies. So, if there was a way to have multiple votes, I look at it as an UPGRADE from the a550.
