Has anyone posted this?

DP review D4 preview

It is interesting to see that they pixel count is down to 16mp but that the iso is up to 12,800 (extendable from 50 – 204,800).

I hope it is O.K. to post even if it is a Nikon, keep your friends close but...

Compared to the D3 and D3s, the pixel count is up, not down.
A850, Schneider 28/2.8 PC, Sony 50/1.4 & 85/2.8, Sigma 105/2.8 macro, Minolta 200/2.8 & 1.4x TC(D).

Yes up a it is indeed. What I thought was interesting is that pixels are down releative to the competition and the own recent releases and that nikon have gone after a higher iso race rather than the pixel race?

Historically, Nikon and Canon have both had TWO -- very different! -- top-of-the-line camera bodies.

One body would be at or near the cutting-edge of resolution, but have a relatively-modest FPS frame-rate. This would typically be considered the studio/product, landscape/architecture, portrait/fashion, etc camera.

The other body would have modest resolution, but blazing-fast FPS. This would be the sports/wildlife/action/etc camera.

With the Canon 1DX, it *appears* that Canon may feel that unifying to a single body is the way to go (at least this generation... who knows what a few years from now will bring... ;-), but I suppose Canon may be prepping an ultra-high-res body for later release...

The Nikon D4, however, appears solidly in the 2-body camp (slightly higher-res than their prior action-cam, but MUCH lower-res & a HUGE fps-jump vs. their D3x fashion/etc body); expect a high-resolution (36MP) D4x to be announced later this year, probably shooting 6-8fps...

Interestingly, if you compared the high-fps-low-resolution body to the low-fps-high-resolution body in terms of total data handled per second, they were usually within 5% of one another... ;-)

Unfortunately for some of us, the general consensus that I'm reading is that the D800/5DmkIII iterations will not use these sensors. They will have much higher MP counts, as the feeling is that prosumers prefer this.

It's unfortunate because a 16-18MP FF camera in this class(a900, D700, 5DmkII) is exactly what many have been waiting for. Maybe Sony?

Also, does anyone know who is making the 16MP Nikon sensor? I assume it's not Sony, but whoever made the 12MP sensor.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I was under the impression that all Nikon sensors were made by other parties. The majority of which are Sony sensor's.
The Nikon 1 is Nikon's first attempt to produce their own sensor.

Yes, sad indeed. I was really hopping for this kind of camera but in "smaller package" (d700 body) since i don't particularly like having integrated grip. I still hope there will be a "d800S" kind of body with this new sensor announced later (just as d700 came later than d3). If not it will be a very hard decision for me what to do in the future (i don't really need 25MP let alone 36MP or more)

I think Nik is about to rub some noisy pixels in Sony's face. I have no doubt this D4 will be a low light dream come true. I'd wager it will be capable of taking great photos in places that Sony users won't even bother to get their camera out. But at least we'll have smile detection and evf to brag about.

gnatsum: it is rather exciting to finally see something with AF sensitivity better than the Maxxum 9 had in 1998 (even if it is only one stop better)!
    Later,

    Jerry.
