Another way you can look at this is the personal financial investment that we have all made into the A-mount system. We are always trying to improve our system by purchasing new lenses, flashes and bodies that can add up very quickly.

I created a spreadsheet last night and was shocked at how much my lens collection is worth. And I have only been in the A-mount for 7 years and it has accumulated fast. I even got a "I told you you spend too much money on that camera stuff" from my wife.

If Sony decides to make the NEX system their main focus then certainly the value of our now old A-mout lenses will loose value. Your $10,000 lens collection may only be worth $6000 in a couple of years as the new technology speeds along.

It's not that the A-mount gear will not perform as excellent as it always has. But if Sony's main focus goes towards the E-mount, now you will not have the same leverage when you sell off some old stuff and get that good of return to reinvest in some newer stuff.

I know the feeling, I've been collecting lenses for 40+ years and I shudder to think of the costs involved now.
Still I don't think you need to worry, I reckon that A-Mount will be around for quite some time yet although some may not appreciate how the cameras evolve.

Sony planned E-mount for consumers and were overwhelmed by nex success. 2012 will show what they will come up with. At the moment a-mount is much more developed and suited for pro use. I love FF glass and bodies. Should sony drop A-mount (not likely), I'll start saving up for a different mount while this fabulous system performs. Again, not likely to happen.
They said it themselves, when they tried to build something from the ground up making it comfortable to use they end up with an SLR body:)

I don't know about that, but the opposite - a camera that captures events that have already occurred - is possible right now. All you need is a camera that records and saves a continuous stream of images at a high frame rate to a temporary short-term memory area. Let's say it saves up to 20 seconds of images and meanwhile deletes the oldest one as the newest one is saved. You would point the camera at a scene that might become interesting and let it record whatever happens. Shortly after you see some decisive moment occur, press a button to write those 20 seconds of images to long-term memory. Then go back later and retrieve the interesting shots.

^ BTW, Minolta provided something very much like that (Progressive Capture) in their Z series cameras.

I thought a quantum camera is one that has been announced, you have per-ordered and may at some undetermined future time exist.
