I have to agree with you Ceaser, Pentax is the only brand that stays truth to photography. Yes they have their problems (all brands have) but one thing i like about it that counterpoints Sony's attitude, is that they're searching for a niche market, which allows them to do great photo tools (like Ricoh does, another brand which i fell in love with when i purchase my Ricoh CX100), and orient their systems correctly, as for example the fixed length objectives are all towards the APS-C system (so i don't see Pentax doing FF for a while).
I think Pentax are quite strong in color, and lens line, with good body designs. The output is very pleasing and with a good fidelity the way i see it. And i think ISO rating is quite good in K7. So best of luck to you, and i'm sure that i speak for everyone here when i tell you, you'll always be welcome to Dyxum. Even with a different brand, still there is knowledge from Minolta/Sony/Dyxum on your output, and that is something that i cherish =) I don't think you'll regret your jump, even if Sony starts doing things right (Minolta right), 'cause although badly known, Pentax system is quite good :) For me, i've just sold my A700+grip and currently selling my A100, and i won't sell my Ricoh LOL. But i've just bought (finally) an A850. Why then. Although i see all Sony problems of today and tomorrow, with this A850 and the lens and flashs that i have will do everything that i want to do and more for the type of photography i intend to professionalized. The output will be (to my believe) the best i can get for the money. So that settles for me. And i remember that just 3years ago, Nikon D2X (a reference then) did less that this camera, and was almighty, so maybe gear is more than enough, and photographer must arise. Again, i think you did the right move for you, and honestly which the best for you and your photos. Keep posting here. By the way, D700 really disappoint me in every aspect beside high-ISO and sharpness, even using the almighty new 24-70f2.8N (which i consider to be as fast focus as my 50f1.4 at best, and darn slower than 28-135 on a700), so Nikon couldn't do for me, and i don't fancy Canons output. Also i don't like 4/3 format, their VF nor their Dynamic range, so Olympus and others with that format are out for me. So any move for me would be Pentax ;) |

I am sure you will continue to impress us and prove the person behind the camera matters more than the gear in their hands.

Good luck on the on the other side Cezar, I hope the move satisfies your needs and desires. While you're there, could you take a picture to show us if the grass is greener?

Good Luck with your move...
....but I am confused - when I look at the weekly Gallery, I struggle to see what is missing in the Sony line up, ... the results are outstanding, as are many of your pictures. Yes there are frustrations with the A700 replacement and some more prime lenses etc., but the images we take shout volumes. I cannot see that many of the lenses in our line up that will be outperformed by other makers? Perhaps I'm wrong. However the great joys about photography is that you never stop learning, and perhaps "jumping ship" elevates that learning curve... My two penny worth. I look forward to seeing some of your pictures with the new gear! Ianb |

Again, thank you for the support you're showing, guys! It's touching, to say the least.
For me, it never was about disappointment with the gear I already had (oh, how I will miss those primes!), and I don't really believe Pentax lenses will be superior to Minolta's (although... [/QUOTE] Mike Johnston might have something to say about that ).
As I was saying in the original post, my decision to move (although influenced by the 'upgrade' to the A700 shown at PMA), comes from the desire of having a capable yet small DSLR body, with matching small, compact (but still excellent) lenses.
Yep, as I was telling Rich in a PM a while ago, I hope that this move will help me rediscover the joy of photography, make me feel again as good as I did in the first few months spent with A100. Moreover, I expect the reduced size and weight of the Pentax system (I'm aiming for K7 + 15/35/77 primes) won't let me come up with excuses like 'I ain't taking the cam with me on this walk into town' :) As for continuing to post my photos here (a lot of people have brought it up, which gives me that warm, fuzzy feelin' ... ): I would really like to do that, but I'm afraid it's not up to me, but for the Admins to decide

I would first, thank you for being part of this community.
Dyxum would be nothing but a "folder name" on some server hard disk if it wasn't for people like you. That's why you, and members like you will be always welcome here, no matter what brand badge is engraved on your photographic equipment. Pentax communities are a nice ones as well AFAIK (that is a better part of being "less popular") and i'm sure you will add part of yourself to one of those nicely. Pentax cameras ? .. honestly i see Pentax more alike what Minolta was than Sony is so, as long it fills your needs .. great choice if you ask me. Once again, thank you for your contribution here, enjoy your new system and don't be afraid to visit us in the future ! Happy shooting ! |

I do like the pancake lenses of Pentax. That was tempting as a more portable system to me.

Just a thought:
Pentax, Sony, Canon, Nikon - all merely tools in your hands, learn to use them and pick the one that delivers. Otherwise, no point to upgrade. Film bodies had a much much longer upgrade cycle. My maxxum 9 still rocks, just as the Nikon F4,5 and such like. These ARE THE LENSES AND THE SKILL WITH THEM THAT MAKE THE DIFFERENCE. All camera bodies have to do is not to stand in the way of a creator/photographer! One still has to work on the image to get the desired effect and how can one expect a computer/machine create master pieces for you - they simply can't. You are the one in charge and you tell the camera what to record. Film/Raw/Jpeg still need your final touch and creativity to shine. As far as weather sealing and ruggedness go. Honestly, how many people can say they lost any part of their gear over these years due to weather conditions? If the technology is available and affordable - use it. Nothing personal - only thoughts. Hope it helps in cooling ones mind over small things. Thank you |

Congrats on picking a kit that you'll enjoy. Sometimes if you get the feeling that you're sort of "stuck" with a system that's evolved against your wishes, you just have to sit down and say "what would I choose today".
It's kind of ironic that after all the bleating over lack of LV and video (and I'm not suggesting that you took part in it - just a general observation, particularly of threads over on other fora), now people are unhappy with a camera that provides it :) Maybe different crowds; maybe too many changes. I think Pentax will increase its appeal to traditionalists (and the new MF camera doesn't hurt their image in that regard). Yet they managed to beat Sony to the punch in offering video, so it's not like they're staying still, either. Happy shooting ! |

All the best and happy shooting Cezar.
And needless to say that you have to post some pics taken with your new tool as well as keep us posted about your experience with Pentax

The limiting factor of image quality rather will be the inability of the photographer than the clearly distinct shortcomings of the camera ;-) |
