Today is my tenth anniversary as a member of Dyxum.

I would like to use it as an opportunity to say a big thank you to all the good folk I have met electronically, and for the help, advice, comments and on occasion, praise.

Particularly enjoyable have been some of the challenges (Aprilfoolishness, Octoberfest and postcard exchange), not to mention the wealth of information in the lens and camera databases. Dyxum is my go to forum for all things photography.

I have even met some of our UK and continental members at meets such as Lichfield (no t), Greenwich and at the NEC photography show, but they have been few and far between over the years. More please.

Forgive me if I single out one person who has been an inspiration with his outstanding photographer's eye, not to mention his wise and dedicated moderation. That is Bob J who I first met way back in a car park at Lichfield wondering if it had been a good idea to drive across the midlands to meet up with a group of complete strangers to take photographs. But it was the start of a terrific association with friendly, helpful and (embarrassingly for me) excellent photographers.

Dyxum must be one of the most civil, and therefore enjoyable forums on the internet. And that I believe is down to the hard work and dedication of the mods, eyes, and others who do all the behind the scenes stuff, for us, for free.

Thank you Dyxum.

Here is to the next 10 years

Happy anniversary, Brian! Just yesterday I was thinking that it's been almost 6 years since I joined the forum, although I had been visiting regularly for 2 years before I got up the nerve to join. It really is the most civil forum on the internet. It feels more like a bond of friendship among the members than the glossed over, superficial connection I feel on other forums. Hope we are all here for another 10 years!

Being a member for only four months, I can fully agree with Bonnevilles words about this forum! Really hope to reach a similar milestone here

Congrats Brian and in 13 more days and I'll join you with my 10 years anniversary. I concur with all your observations and it's an honour and pleasure to serve such a wonderful forum of friends with a common passion. The generally very civil behaviour make a moderators task quite easy over here.

I've met Dyxum members at meetings all over the world and these encounters have shown me what a wonderful community we really are!

Mind the bandwidth of others, don't link pictures larger then 1024 wide or 960 pix high, see here

Happy tenth! :)

This made me curious about when Dyxum itself officially went online and this is the earliest I could find in the way back machine archive.

Mladen might smile fondly at this page.

Wow, congrats. This reminded me to check my anniversary date. I signed up a day before you, LOL! So 10 years and a day for me.

I came here in search of lens advice way back when, shortly after I purchased my A700, I think ... I still have my Tam 28-75 from that early research.

I too have enjoyed visiting and doing the challenges. I don't visit as often as I used to, but still come here for advice from time to time. I try to sign up for the Postcard Exchange each year ... one event that I really enjoy. It's so fun to receive cards from all over the world! I should try to get back into the other challenges. I'm guessing Week 50mm still happens, right?

Here's to another 10 for both of us!

Congrats Brian
(Of course) it made me check my own start date.
It turns out I'm here for 2 days longer then you and one day longer then ADub128.
It seems a lot of persistent members signed up that week.

Yep. I had a similar experience. I even wasn't sure whether I would find the group of compete strangers. Well I did and we had a great day shooting Steam locomotives.

Thank you Dyxum

@bonneville: Here is to the next 10 years Brian! - Many thanks for your contributions over that time.

I think it is about 10 years since I joined the team as a moderator - mainly on the back of helping organize the first two London meetings, so I might be able to claim a 10 year anniversary as well.

From memory, of the current team, Maffe (and of course Kiklop) predated me and MiPr joined about the same time. It was quite a team, with Cam (brettania), Gustavo (Sanjuro) and Dennis (CTYankee) as active administrators and the inspiring Turkisk duo of Omerbey and Turerkan filling out the moderator ranks, along with Chris (dCap).

Brian's comments are very kind, however, I'd point out that this place is so good because of the whole membership bringing the right sort of constructive and respectful attitude (something Cam really fostered); even when we were very busy (and I get the impression that a lot of photo forums have far less traffic than they used to), the membersip has been largely self-moderating. On the whole, a great place to learn from others (both old and new members) - about photography, but also in how folk do stuff differently around the globe and about how that is to be celebrated.

I'm curious why so many of us registered here at Dyxum that week in May? Perhaps we all wanted news about the A700 which was launched in the Fall 2007 ... the camera world has changed a lot since then.

Congrats again, bonneville and pegelli!

Than you all for comments.

A party? That's a good idea.

The next 90 years! That will be a good trick although at 159 I'll have to give up my heavy cameras and lenses and downsize to one of the diddy ones, like the a9
