Just to update everyone.

I have eventually got Barclaycard to issue a chargeback against Paypal (this has taken so long due to the incompetence of Barclaycard's Indian staff nothing to do with Barclaycard causing delays).

Sadly because the problem is credit card fraud the police cannot do anything unless the card companies asks them to (a change in UK law about two years ago). Barclaycard aren't that interested in that so we aren't going to get anywhere but at least my blog is high up in any google searches against his real name and paypal.

I don't agree Sir !
I sent paypal photos of the "lens"

That may be good for anyone who tries to buy something from jabba1966 (if he uses that name again) and is suspicious enough to google the name, but that doesn't help bring the current situation to resolution nor prevent most of the future ones.

this is what I was talking about and it was amazing how fast justice was served. The only question is how definite is the id on this guy?

I'm just posting a possible course of action, but would leave that up to those that have been directly affected by this scammer if they choose to pursue this.

I had already made a small contribution- wasn't sure if it was appropriate to mention it earlier.

If there is an excess, I'm happy for it to go to some charity of sorts.

Notice the avatar, originally his photograph was posted there. After this post

Is it a coincidence he calls himself Jabba ?

Roy
he changed it to the current avatar of Jabba the Hut. Hardly the actions of a person with a stolen identity.

I think we should wait and see if this is properly resolved, both financially and legally before we broadcast it.

Any thoughts on whether it would be good or bad to try to get this posted onto a larger gadget blog (such as gizmodo) -- I remember there was a Sidekick that was once stolen and once the identity of the theft was published, the story was published widely and the sidekick recovered (and the theft humiliated). Only downside to this is that the dyxum board may get flooded with copycats.
