So sorry to hear this fine forum has been 'defiled' by scammers, I do despair sometimes

My experience suggests Paypal will be no help, they 'talk the talk' but when you need their help.......

Hi All,

I am very sorry to hear that I was right in my suspitions about this guy but even more sorry that I did not react and report the guy instantly. I had no proof only suspitions.

Dave / David / oldcodger2009@hotmail.co.uk , put A700 up for sale.
I put in a rather low bid which he accepted (first hint). I asked for pictures, full address and stuff. Only pictures arrived over email but they were not as described in the communication (second hint) and he did not deliver address details as requested (Final drop!! So I broke off the deal)

He told me: "my paypal email is oldcodger2009@hotmail.co.uk"

I can deliver the full communication or email-header-details if that will help anyone?
Contact me on email mikkel@larsen-ledet.dk

Again sorry for not reacting on the bad feeling about the guy.

Mikkel

Mikkel

Welcome to Dyxum and sorry that your first post had to be about this sorry affair.

It would be worthwhile copying both your post and the full e-mail header to both Dyxum members joerun and eek both of whom appear to have been scammed.

thanks

Nigel Brooks

I read on another forum (AVF) that Pirate who is also a member here sent the guy a PM when the camera was up for sale on here and he said his name was Dave Smith??

Maybe Pirate will see this thread and might have more info.

Dave Smith is the name that 'oldcodger' registered under.

However joerun got an email with an address containing 'Jabba1966' which had the name John Humphries associated with it before that member was banned.

very sorry to hear your bad luck joe.
someone tried to trick me in paypal before as well by sending me a fake but very real looking paypal payment email for a lens i'm selling (about 500 bucks), even the email address is from paypal.com. i almost sent the package but decided to log on to paypal to verify if fund is there and of course nothing.
i filed detail report to paypal with the guys email address and shipping address. but all they did was send me an useless "thank you" email back. its been one year now and i still havn't heard from paypal. i guess i didn't really lose any money in that fraud, but it was still quite a blow to me emotionally. it is quite sad somebody on earth is doing things like this.

i hope paypal and the police/interpol can help you track down the guy. it does not make sense to me that people can do something like this and get away with it.

good luck.

Giuseppe: I posted this in the A700 thread, but I thought I'd mention it here too in case you didn't see it. If you used a credit card via paypal, your credit card company can probably stop payment.

I've found paypal/ebay to be absolutely useless in fraud cases. I ALWAYS use my credit card with paypal purchases now, since that's what has saved me in the past.

Giuseppe

I've been doing some 'digging around'

ntlworld.com (the address used by Jabba1966) is owned by Virgin Media in the UK I am sure that if they had a request from the Italian Police that they could/would give them full details of the real name and address to further their inquiries.

Their address in the UK is:

Virgin Media Internet Security Team,
Internet Security,
Virgin Media,
Caradog House,
NEWPORT
Wales
NP10 8UG

Telephone +44 1633 710142

Perhaps he should be notified that he is being impersonated by a criminal.

I thought about that Richard but just in case it is the scammer (admittedly unlikely but possible), I didn't want to alert him.

Well, if he checks Dyxum from time to time he is already alerted
