Interesting. As a matter of habit, I give priority support to the lens if it is beercan size or larger, but, I regularly used the beercan on the A100 and let it hang, lens downward, from my neck, for years. Since the beercan died I've been using a Tamron 70-200 which is considerably heavier, but mostly I use wide lenses on the A100 & the teles go on the A700, so maybe the A100 hasn't been fully 'tested' - but I've certainly used the 70-200 on it.

And the A700's body (primarily the back panel) seems to flex more in my hand than the A100 ever did.

And I've never had a lens wobble on the A100, not even the Tamron 70-200. It feels less stable on the A100 than on the A700, but that's mainly due to the different balance of lens weight vs. body weight.

I've not had a problem in 5 years. I use the beercan and Sigma 24-60/2.8, which is not a very light lens. I tend to hold/support everything by the lens, rather than the body, as it is much more comfortable for my hand that way.
