Hi everyone!

Hope someone can help me.

I am using a A7R II . I have recently ordered a Godox AD200 with X-ProS transmitter as my main off camera strobe.

I also own an old HVL58 AM from my A99 days. Rarely use it with the A7R II due to the need for that fiddly little adaptor.

My question is : If I am using the AD200 as main light controlled by the X-ProS, will I be able to set up the 58AM as a slave (without any additional wires / receivers)

Thank you!

You will need the R2 receiver, or the R2T if you want to mount the flash on camera and control the AD200 remotely.

My XProS is on the camera.

AD200 has built in wireless receiver

What I am asking is if the flash from the AD200 can trigger a simultaneous flash from the HVL58AM?

Not directly, no. The F58 will only respond to a specific coded pulse from a compatible controller. A non-coded flash could be recognized by adding an external optical slave on its foot. But even then, it could only trigger manual output with no fancy capabilities.

The flash from the AD200 cannot trigger the F58 as the AD200s do not have optical TTL control. The F58 also lacks a dumb optical slave mode. The Godox hotshoe style flashes (the V860II or the Flashpoint R2s) can use Sony optical TTL triggering, but then you'd give up radio control and you'd lose ability to trigger the AD200.

I've never tested an older style foot shoe with an adapter on the X1R-S wireless radio receiver. The F60M works perfectly via Godox Radio Control on the X1R-S as I've been able to use it with my R2 flashes and XPro-S transmitter with no issues.

You can try ordering an X1R-S and using the hotshoe converter on top, but there's no guarantee that it will work with TTL. The one thread report of this on DPR is that the F58 only works via manual control on the X1R-S and that's with manual power levels set on the flash itself. It will trigger the flash via the radio, but only when set to M.

My advice would be to pick up a V860 II or an R2 flash or even one of the cheaper manual-only Godox flashes for your add-on light and keep the F58 for when you want to use on-camera only. The cost of a receiver is $40. A manual-only AA powered Flashpoint R2 flash is only $65 on Adorama. The AA TTL versions are $110.

Agree, and if you don't want a full size shoe mount flash I highly recommend the tiny TT350S.

I bought one to use for macro and couldn't be happier.
