Hi everyone,

We made a visit to Sissinghurst Gardens recently and were fortunate enough to coincide with the height of their iris flowering season. These are showy flowers, full of colour, but are notoriously difficult to do justice to in images. There follows my best tries at capturing these lovely blooms - I hope you like them:

1. In A Field of Blue

2. Off White

3. Single Blue Bloom

4. Red Tongue

5. Yellow Details

6. Delicate Paper White

7. Purple and yellow Hairs

8. Heart of the iris

Thanks for looking and comments always welcomed.

Best regards, Neil.

English gardens are often regarded as the most beautiful, but individual flowers cannot show that effectively. Some show great texture, like #4-7. Not all worked equally well, good examples are #5 and 7 -although the interesting part in 5 takes relatively small part of the frame. Nevertheless, good to see some flowers. TFS Neil    .

Gorgeous shots. #8 is particularly striking. Although #5...

Hmm.. This is a genre I've never attempted...

Nice series, 4 and 6 are my favourites. I like how the texture and details are brought out, and the colours in all of them look very natural and nice.
Mind the bandwidth of others, don't link pictures larger then 1024 wide or 960 pix high, see here

Thanks for the comments everyone!

I think these are possibly one of the most difficult flowers to capture really well - the 3D nature of them means you can't go too low DoF as everything become just too fuzzy. The one positive they have is they come in a great series of bright and pastel hues and tones, so always something interesting to show off!

I'll be posting the rest of the garden series soon.

Best regards,

Neil.
