i have a tamron sp 70-300 - used it through the summer and didn't have any problems with creep - don't know if the colder weather has contracted the materials in the lens, but now when walking about it goes from 70 to 300 in no time at all. It's a bit of a nuisance especially when, as happened the other day, i am photographing a bird flying overhead and during shooting the lens actually crept back from 300 to under 200. Is there anything to be done about this or is it a duct tape solution? :)

Mine does that too; didnt when I first got it but a lot of use over the summer has seen it start creeping lately.
However, you know those rubber bands that are popular right now supporting the troops, breast cancer, etc? They're just the right size to slip over the barrel, position it so the majority is on the zoom ring, and just a bit on the lens barrel and voila. No more creep. I used a lime green "Kiss me I'm Irish" one, gets you noticed

I'm still searching for a green Heineken wrist band. Meanwhile, Lens Bands have solved the zoom creep on my CZ 16-80 and my Minolta 100-400 APO. I've also been using a Lens Band to hold the clear filter in place on my Minolta 500/8 reflex since its flimsy plastic knob broke off. My Sony 18-250 hasn't started creeping yet, but I put an orange Lens Band on it just to make it look sexy!
