I swear I am getting faster AF on my a300 using live view over the OVF. Is that possible or even normal?

Many Sony DSLRs, including yours, use a secondary sensor for live-view. This allows phase detect AF for live-view as well as OVF so theoretically they should both be equally fast. It is not normal for other brands.

AF speed should be (is) the same in either mode. Is it just an impression or did you test this ?
