Adapter has arrived, thanks James!

I'm having some issues though, even having read through this thread

When I mount the adapter and switch on, I get my first setting - 28/2.5. Half holding the shutter release down on boot up, and then half pressing the shutter again has no effect whatsover. Nothing changes on the LCD.

If the lens is mounted whilst the camera is switched on however, I get my second setting - 135/2.8. The LCD flashes F2.8 then F1 then F2.8 then F1 and so on for about 15 seconds until settling at f2.8 (in white). If I use the camera aperture control to open up wide, the f2.8 goes orange and then white.

So...I'm not sure how to access my other two focal lengths - 300/5.6 and 400/6.3. I've tried all sorts! Half pressing the shutter button after attaching the lens has no effect on the values on the LCD and the aperture dial, whilst changing the chosen aperture, doesn't set anything. For example, I can dial to f5.6, but once the F1, F5.6, F1 cycle finishes, the maximum aperture isn't set at f5.6 and the camera still reports a focal length of 135mm.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Sorry for I have not update the manual in time. Your adapter must be update to new firmware.
You can try to use the Lens Release Button to change lens data.
After press the Release button,The aperture in the LCD will flash, you can press the release button change the lens data. when you find the right lens data, you can wait about 5 seconds to lock the lens data.

You can change lens data any time and do not need turn-off the adapter again.

Wish you can find your other two focal lengths soon.

Hello,

I've read this post, but I'm still a little confused about this -- I have a Helios 44-2, which is a 50/2.0 I believe. This will be installed on the a700.

Can I use this adapter to match exactly what I have?

if so, would you be able to give me the specific steps?

thanks,
Lawrence

The Helios-44-2 is a 58mm f/2. You'll probably need to choose either 55mm or 60mm for the focal length in the adapter. Neither should make any practical difference.

Hi,

just buying the chipped M42 adaptor and using that with CZJ Pancolar 50/1,8 on my A700. But I am pretty confusing with dot focus confirmation in the viewfinder:
I don't find the dot helpful, it has a wider tolerance for focus than my eyes, so I am not able to trust the dot. May I wrong adaptor or it is normal and the dot works only for roughly quick focusing with next presice focusing by eye. What are your experiences with that?
Unfotunately although I am wearing the glasses (-4 diopters) I look to the viewfinder without. Due that I bought dioptric correction. But it is not right enough.

My colleagues with Canon or Pentax cameras are able to focus quickly and pretty precise with M42 lenses only with help of focus confirmation.
Thanks for your help.

That's my experience as well, but I find that with some practice focusing speed and accuracy improve.

Right, I'm probably not very bright, but having a multi-data adapter I can't seem to find the other settings.

-> Pressing the lens-release button when the camera is turned on, in A mode and the m42lens is set to its max aperture physically the F number on the LCD turns to --. Keeping the lens-release button pressed it stays at --. Pressing it repeatedly it stays at -- until I release it and it goes from F1 to the first again (F2.8) very quickly.

I can still set the camera to whatever F smaller than 2.8 I wish, of course, but I seem unable to cycle between the four settings of the adapter.

Still, it is the first M42 adapter I've had that allows infinity focus :)

That is the big_is adapter and works just fine.
Cheaper from big-is.
