Just a heads up for any Aussie members interested:
A Mino 600 f4 for sale has just popped up on the Sony Minolta Australia Buy/Swap/Sell facebook group (a closed group) - $2,350.
Had a bit of a squiz at the seller's facebook page, seems he may have been a sports photographer some time ago. He offers paypal, and seems will post for a fee.

(Note: there have been one or two fraudulent transactions in this group lately. Don't use Paypal friends and family.)

Is that AUD? That's a bit lower than USD 1800. Sounds like a steal!

It certainly should be AUD for that group.

I saw it yesterday and was very briefly tempted. However the seller is in another state and is a brand new member of the group so has no history to create trust. Besides, there is no way that my wife will believe me when I try to deny that I've been buying lenses again - I think I got away with it when I bought the 70-400, but the 600/4 is a little more obvious.

Nah - tuck it under your shirt as you go in the house; she'll never notice....

I suppose you could use it a bit and sell without losing money. As long as you can be certain you're not getting a dud.

Or a brick, literally.

But if it was a for just the lens with no other accessories like the case and filters and isn't in the best of shape, I could see it going for that. It's on the really low side but prices have dropped bigly on the great white.

What, it's a word now, right?

"Optically and mechanically in good condition". Looks good for its age. A bit of wear to the paint from use. Seems complete. Photos show the hood, rear filter (in place), case, and a little documentation. High Speed. Not sure if there is a front filter. A search of google images does not come up with the same photos elsewhere. That's enough due diligence from me. Considering that I'm not in NSW, and have too much glass already, I'm not buying.

Tempting, very tempting. But wouldnít really work with the way I usually do my birding, prefer a nice walk rather than stay in one place and hauling that thing aling for a walk could turn painful!

Shame it didnít turn up a few weeks ago when I was down in Bulli. Then again itís just an hours drive.

Its a steal really for a 600 F4
Obviously a bit of a gamble that if a part breaks, well its a doorstop

Wrong side of the country for me to test!

Now that I'm home comparing this photo of the front with the database photo it does indeed look like the front filter is in place.
Really should stop looking before I go and do something silly!

Edit: looking through out database it's funny in a way that it seems there's 2 copies of this lens so close geographically, the one for sale in Bulli and Wolfy's lens just down the coast in Wollongong. Unless he sold it off locally and it's that copy that's now for sale again.

It's indeed a steal, judging by that photo. Wouldn't want to buy it remotely, though. Would prefer to have in my hands, mounted on a body and a few test shots fired and verified.
But then, I wouldn't want to risk divorce papers from the wife...

If it was in the USA at that price even a state away Iíd drive and see it. And I donít even have any a mount bodies anymore just e mount. Well except the camera I gave the boy. Anyways 600mm lenses at that price are worth looking into imo
