My submission for this assignment. As I understand it, lead-in-lines are meant to draw your eye to a focal point within the shot, or into the picture itself. I have attempted to draw the eye into the image by using the carpet, but also the arches, and have used the red to accentuate this. Hope it passes! Thank you. Ian. |

here's my attempt. the split between the two halves of roadway leads the eye from the in focus dot, which is the subject, through the image back to the three OOF dots. This shot is also an evolution of another, older shot, that pegelli and some of the other mods and senior members have been helping me with in critic's corner. Thanks for that guys, i think it turned out great

@jvsanchez: Vincent, for me this is a great example of the use of a leading line. Using it to break the ROT is very effective. As I recall from the Critics Corner post, this shot was cropped and rotated so, technically, it does not qualify for a "pass" on this assignment which encourages "through the viewfinder" compositions. Nonetheless, it's a great example of the objective of the assignment and a great image! TFS... Brian

@MiGPRADO: Miguel, The line featured most strongly in this photo (the drain beginning at the lower-right) does not lead to the subject. The lines in the pavement serve the proper purpose of a leading line, but they are overwhelmed by the stronger lines leading into the distance. Please have another go at this one.
Cheers... Brian |

actually, it's a new shot altogether. here's a quick comparison: Original shot from 2 weeks ago:
EXIF: 1/125, f/5.6, 100 ISO, +0ev, multi-seg metering; 1/10/10, 17:32 New shot from this past Sunday:
EXIF: 1/160, f/5.6, 100 ISO, +0ev, multi-seg metering; 1/24/10, 17:48 additionally, here's a link to my flickr page where you can see that the filenames assigned by my A200 are different, and the photos are separated by about 250 images. am i correct in thinking that since these are in fact different images, the one i submitted for this assignment would be a pass? (also, the shots in the critics corner area were totally different images too) |

@jvsanchez: Yes, indeed! Thanks for the clarification. It was difficult to tell without the embedded Exif. Cheers (and PASS!)... Brian

bms44974, would you be in a position to cast an eye over my submission, please? Bottom of page 2. Thank you. Berean.

@Berean: Sorry for the delay in response. Your shot has a strong leading line but it's difficult to tell if your subject is the alter or the window. Both are out of focus, and while this is a desireable thing in some situations, it doesn't seem to be helping you in this photo. Please have another go at this one and give weight to both the line and subject. Cheers... Brian

@mambo: You have some strong leading lines, Charles, but the subject is rather small and indistinct. Pieter (pegelli) had some comments for Minoltista on the previous page that seem appropriate here as well:
Cheers... Brian |

@Berean: One of the assignment rules states:
"no mining, shots must be specifically taken for the assignment." Given the attire on the figure in the background, I suspect that this shot may have been taken during a balmier season
As for the leading line, this is fairly good example. I know you'll understand if I ask you for another.

Ha, ha, ha! I've been caught cheating , but not intentionally. Really sorry, I didn't read the rules properly, so please don't feel embarrassed about asking for another. However, I do intend to take another in a similar vein. Sorry to put you in an uncomfortable position. Thank you for your post. Regards, Ian.
