Hi MarkyB

Nice colours in that picture but when I look at it my attention is immediately drawn to the head, and then follows the line to the tail but it's leading out of the picture, rather than to something other interesting. So pls. try again, now with a line leading to a subject or through an interesting area in the picture.

Thanks Pegelli, I did think it was a cheeky attempt but thought it was worth a shot given the colours and how interesting the shot was. Will give it another go!

Intriging picture robertsmx and I make it a pass after looking at it several times. The main cable at the top "leads" my eye to the background every time I look, and even though the subject is very large (the rest of the bridge & suspension cables) it works very well I think.

How is this?

I turned it to black and white, added a filter and sharpened. No crops or anything else.

@Rebecca, I assume your leading line is the path to the pulpit. I find however the balcony above with the strong horizontal line too "overpowering" and that's the line that immediately grabs my attention when watching the photo. So pls. try again.

Btw, I like the picture and the B&W treatment, it's just that the LL isn't strong enough.

One more time! I wasn't able to hold the camera level, but ... well ... business clothes, in public, modesty, etc.

Are these any closer to what I should be doing?

That's more like it Rebecca. Strong lines by the path and sides of the benches to the pulpit at the end. Especially the first becaus there the pattern in the rug starts at a more natural position. Also much less distractions by the horizontal lines in the background so I'd call it a pass.

Btw, minor straightening is allowed for the assignments, so just try that and be "perfect".

Thanks Pegelli !

This is my attempt at straightening. Perfect? Uh-uh. But hopefully better.

Now, on to the next assignment.

Hello moderators and other critics! At long last I've found myself with some time to shoot, and time to hit the assignments. I had meant to do them in order, but I couldn't get away from this shadow on a bridge and the ragged tree. So, leading lines gets the nod!

smf: If it were me, I'd rather see that shot at a smaller aperture, maybe something like f/16. A leading line has to lead to something, but in this case the only thing it leads to is a tree that's far enough out of focus that we can't see much about it beyond that fact that it is (probably, anyway) a tree.

Here, it seems to me that instead of helping to emphasize the subject, the leading line has almost taken over as being the subject itself.
    Later,

    Jerry.

Thanks Jerry,

Could agree more. I was a little disappointed to get home and realize that I had missed getting that tree better isolated and in focus in any of my shots. Clearly, operator error, having failed to stop down any further than f/8, despite ample light!

Thanks for the input.
