After seeing the dandelion shot on page 4, which I really like, I thought i'd put a shot in here.

I thought of this as a kind of negative shot- the opposite of what you would normally do with light. I hung around waiting for the shadow of another tree to be centered.

@mateogrande12: That's a pass for me.

@FineArt: Your image is not showing up for me. Please update the link.

Cheers... Brian

@FineArt: Please provide a new post once you have solved the problem. That way I'll be sure to get e-mail notification and it won't slip through the cracks. Cheers... Brian

Finally had a chance to get all my pictures from the last weeks of travelling downloaded to my server. I had this assignment in my head and got a similar picture that I took back in November last year. Hopefully it will pass this time.

I've been shopping for silhouettes for the last couple of weeks and finally got what I think is a good one. Too bad someone earlier in this thread caught a similar shot.

Here's trying....

Nice and simple Hopkins, a clear pass in my mind.
And you know, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so you probably made a previous poster happy as well.

With this in mind I tried a few of these today given a rare sunny one. Not sure if its clean enough but I like the subject.

Putting on my top hat...

@ Macca, we've had some like that before and it's just too "messy" to pass for an intermediate assignment. Clear composition and flawless execution is what we're looking for in this intermediate assignment, so pls. try again.

@ rticknor, that's a pass, very smartly done with the backlight and the smoke.

These ate my initial attempts. Wanted to get a profile with light fading out as it went away from the outline of the face.

Took these by setting up a piano stool with a flash beneath it firing at the wall wile I lay on the bench. Very difficult to get the desired effect when you are your own model, as you have to get up and look at results then make adjustments and get back in place... plus the wall I was using wasn't smooth enough for the effect I was after.

However, by upping the contrast in PP I did get two reasonable silhouette shots which were close to what I was trying to achieve.

#2

Very good effort Bob, and a clear pass. The only thing I don't like (but that's a clear matter of taste) is the blue-greenish colours, but the assignment was executed very well

Macca, very nice and also a pass. Only comment is that the tower seems a bit soft, but this is more then compensated by getting the moon in and that adds a real special touch to the photo.
