This is the NEW Intermediate assignment No 6 - Pattern
Pattern is associated with order. We are sensitive to subtle changes in pattern and can gain extra information from those changes (for instance distance as a pattern gets smaller). Often our attention is drawn to disturbances in pattern. Assignment: Take a shot where the impact relies on featuring a repeated pattern.

John, sorry I already looked at the picture several times but need to ponder a bit further on it. I like the shot (might have put the prime focus on the first wave, but that's not extremely important) and there is indeed a pattern of waves going into the background. However what makes me wonder about pass/try again is that there are so many other areas in the picture that don't contribute to the pattern that I'm not sure. Maybe a night sleep (or another Dyxum admin/mod) can help me out on this one.

Sorry to say that I agree with pegelli and think that the pattern effect does not have sufficient impact. I saw the shot before pegelli made his comments and my immediate thought was "not quite".

John, My night sleep resulted in the same conclusion as brettania, so pls. try again a picture where the pattern is a more prominent (or even overwhelming) subject

Right,
With the recent grey drab weather in the UK I thought I'd look inside for some inspiration for this assignment and hooked up the Macro lens to my new Tripod and snapped this. Minor straightening and brightness/contrast adjustment.
Cheers for looking Olly |

@ Pathway, nice effort for a pass. What I like is that it's not just a straight pattern, you also played with light, dof, perspective and curvature to make something more interesting out of it. Only comment is that it's quite static and central, but not inappropriate for something like this.

This may be a slightly different interpretation of "Patterns" than the one you are looking for, but im trying to think a little bit differently for these assignments. Here goes/hoping

While it is good to see people thinking outside the square, patterns involve "order" and the bulk of this shot is more about random. (Lines of coloured pencils sitting in their box would show order, but I probably should not be giving you ideas.
I regret that for me, John, this is not a pass. Edited by brettania - 19 January 2010 at 21:07 |

Thanks Cameron, i did actually take a shot as you suggested but i want to think a little differently for this assignment ( i was hoping the circular pattern wasn't too random ) and not post something that doesn't make you think a little bit. So back to the drawing board ( sorry about the pun )
Cheers John |

I concur with brettania on not passing, but I like the innovative approach to the shot

Well done ... either shot is a pass and you may move to the next Assignment.
