I do know for certain that there is going to be a D4 for next years Olympics, so a D700 replacement wouldn't be that far off then.

For once, I'm gonna feed the troll.
This is an alpha-mount forum and the 1st OP's post is about a non existing competing camera? Who cares !? |

Depending on how it is and assuming that Sony sticks with the EVF that might be my next camera. I'd hate to leave the mount given how good my Sony DSLRs have been and my investment in the mount but I really did not like the EVF when I rented an A55 and do not want to have a camera that is not a joy to use because for me the user experience is almost as important as the results.

Not true. Nikon does design their own sensors, they just don't manufacture them. The D700, D3 and D3s are Nikon designed and built by who knows, but most likely Sony on Nikon's behalf. |

True, but the D700/D3 are the same sensor and the D3s is an improved version of it. |

This is really funny. Now we are into rumors of a non-existent non-Alpha product on a dedicated Alpha site. There are a dozen other Nikon dedicated sites where such speculation can be done, I would imagine !

If the sensor will be produced by Sony, can we then assume that the A77 has the same sensor or not?
There are rumours of a nikon D400 to, as a replacement for the D300. @roweraay: We just like rumours

While this is a A mount based forum, it is silly to have a closed mind to what other brands/makes are coming out with. kiklop has always in the past been very understanding and supportive of polite discussions of other brands/makes of camera, that is what has always separated this forum from the others. Regarding a D400 sensor showing up in the a77, who knows, it really depends on if it is a Sony design shared with Nikon or a Nikon design. If it is a Nikon designed chip, no it won't be in any Sony camera. |

Does that matter? Not for me. This forum is open for everybody who friendly asks qustions. Welcome, akmaster007! Many of us do have a second system and as far as I remember, our forum admin shoots Nikon now.
That is what Nikon wants people to believe. Didn't someone recently open a D7000 and found out that it had exactly the same sensor (type number) like the current Sonys? Rumors say, that Sony will come with 2 FF cameras next year. One will be a very high resolution camera and the other a 24MP camera optimised for high ISO. It is very likely that this 24MP sensor will be in the D4 and D800 too. Still only rumors. Edited by travelshots - 18 June 2011 at 22:51 |

If we look in history, it is very likely that the D400 will have the A77 sensor, just like D300 had the A700 sensor (maybe with minor modifications). |
