while playing around with my new a77 today I found a very serious issue. Everytime I took a shot with the light source to my right this odd purple line would appear in the image. I took about 20 shots of different things an could produce it everytime I wanted too,as long as the sun was to the camera right. I tried different cards with the same result.

any ideas?

That's a sensor defect. Send it in for warranty repair ASAP.

Whoa. I have 2 A77s, and I never had such problem with both. Have you updated the firmware?

+1
First one we've seen from the a77, but not the first time we've seen it. Sorry for your luck but occasionally one slips past QC.

Definitely time for a return. Not sure if the same rules apply in Canada, but I'd go straight back to the retailer for a replacement.

I'd demand a replacement. Defective product.
If they refused they'd be in court, the same day I'd start procedings. Guess what as the writ landed on the company secretaries desk. I'd be given a replacement.
Best Regards
