I agree.. Where is the OMG factor? Where is the innovation? 36 mp w/o AA? That's it? All the other specs look like it was from 3 years ago. It doesn't even have a tiltable LCD!

Am I missing something here? Looks to be a great studio/landscape camera but I guess it's the price that makes it special. And $3,300 isn't exactly cheap for some.

Really? on what part? do please enlighten me, since what I see the specs that the first thing people usually squint their eyes on are ISO.. and that's only up to 6,400. Granted it's expandable to 25,600 but is it going to give the result you wish to see from a nearly $3 grand camera?

And 4 fps burst on full resolution... And people say 12fps in a 24mp apsc sensor is just a gimmick.. i don't know...

would have been perfect for me but I knew this was never going to happen, I really don't want to buy the huge bodies with the built in grip but it seems I won't have a choice

Exactly my thoughts !!

36MP just isn't what i need (same goes for 24MP actually).

I will wait to see user feedbacks and if there will be no major problems i will replace my a900 with d800 (and keep d700 for awhile) and finally set on one system only but i certainly hopped for something different (actually, i still hope we may see an "d800" with D4 spec next year)

this is a good camera.. but the price is too high.
24 MP, A65... $999
36 MP, D800... $3000

just does not make sense....mm....
A65 + KM 7D + Maxxum 9 + 8 + 16 + 35 + 50 + 85 + 100 + 135 + 80-200SSM + 16-105 + 400 ....

Nex 3 + 16

Now , I am a semi prime guy !!

Agree, for many (if not most) this isn't a valid investment.

But, on the other hand, a d800 body is .. well .. to put it gently .. different and some photographers don't value camera bodies on MP count. There are so many useful things that a modern camera can provide other than MP or "iso" and it isn't good idea discussing camera value by one or two numbers from specification sheets

Funny enough, many people who usually attack Sony for the high MPs, now praise Nikon for this camera (even with the high MPs).

I guess this will always be the case just as those that aren't liking 36MP on nikon body will be trilled with the same on Sony cameras. It is called progress of mind :)

As for myself, not being able to get used to the "you can crop more" argument i never liked anything above 12-16MP on a FF body and i don't like 36MP offering at all (just like aarif i wanted less MP).
Having both d700 (12MP) and a900(25MP) i never encountered a single problem with my clients when delivering 12MP files either digital on prints.

But, different shoes for different foots i guess and mine foot just doesn't feel comfortable with the EVF only idea so 36MP seems to be only choice offered for the future

At least Sony will come with cheaper FF models, again. Good news for me.

I think the d800 release is good news for the whole photography world.

I think Nikon might do that in a year but only after the D4 sales start to slow down, I guess they know that a D800s with a D4 sensor and same AF system would seriously hurt the D4 sales even with slower fps, I'm also waiting to see the new AF system performance and how much it has improved specially in low light conditions as they state

Keep in mind unlike Sony they still give you a choice in D4 16mp or the older D700/D3s 12mp but personally I want a smaller body with the lower resolution sensor which I won't get for a while at least
