Pic-A-Day weeks Feb 2010

Since last February we have been running a pair of Pic-a-day weeks following on from one-prime months.

Unlike one-prime and Week 50, you don't have to restrict yourself to one lens, or to a prime – the basic challenge is to take a shot each day and post it in the threads available.

You can set yourself extra restrictions if you like, so if you want to do it with a single lens, then you can. Some people may view this challenge as a way of winding down after taking part in the one-prime month; others may see it as a way of dipping their toes prior to deciding if they want to give a longer challenge a go – but the pic-a-day weeks can just be an end in themselves. The key thing is to enjoy ourselves and take some photographs!

Duration:
The last time we did this a few of us ended up continuing for the whole month, so rather than just a pair of weeks, this time I'm suggesting that the pic-a day can run throughout the whole of February, with members able to opt into whatever of the four weeks they wish (and possibly dipping out for a week or two in-between).

An idea for an optional challenge:
In this post Octupi mentions Kirk Voclain, who limits himself to a number of shots in any one session to guard against the 'spray and pray' technique that digital can encourage – I'm rather taken with this idea, so I'm planning to try shooting for this challenge using a card that will only allow me to store a limited number of shots for each day (I haven't decided on 24 or 36 yet – I might have to see what my lowest capacity cards will hold).

I'm in for the first two weeks and take it from there, but I'll be disappointed if I don't do four. I'll set myself some additional "challenges", including limiting the number of shots most days, planning shots precisely in advance, and shooting only one very limited and unpromising location, but I won't declare them in advance as I do need some fun in February. I promise to shoot at least one really pretty girl though - I rarely do that!

I'll in for at least two of the weeks. I have to say that I am intrigued by the idea of limiting the amount of shots in a day. I'll have to think about that one.

I think one of the weeks I will try to do some people shooting.

I'm in and agree to no more than 24 shots a day for this process... scatter gun.... gone!

Novemeber Pic a day, I probably was well within that limit most days as the weather was so awful.

I'll start for 2 weeks, but hope to do the whole month.

Week 3..16 a day max.
Week 4...8 a day max.

Film used to be expensive!

Ok guys, I haven't done anything since April Foolishness last year so count me in on this one.

I'm thinking of my self imposed restriction(s) -

Well as my MAF-M42 adapters are on their way then an all manual focus Sony/Minolta month looks like a good starting point.

I'm thinking shoot for at least 50% of the month either 1 pic every other day or two full weeks.

I'll think some more.....

I managed to find a 512MB bard at the bottom of the bag, this limits to 38 shots on CRAW, or 25 on RAW. I guess if you wanted to limit the number of shots that would fit on a bigger card, you could copy a suitable-sized file to use up the rest of the space.

I think the shot limiting is most difficult in bad light - in trying this out the other day I found that I habitually take a string of 4 shots in such situations... :-)

I'm in for a couple weeks. Might even use the α700 and an autofocus lens LOL... but we shall see.

Following on from my post above I think I will divide the month into two with lenses from Germany for 1-14 and Russia 15-28. Picture posted every other day.

Sign me up for the first 2 weeks also please, although I may be able to carry on for the whole month yet. I'm thinking of, to start with, limiting my self to using just one 1gb card for the whole thing, no deleting files, and shooting in raw, which will give me about 70 shots. As for sticking to just one lense, I'll have a think

I was wondering how to do the threads for this - previously we have done one thread per day, but we could just divide it up into 4 one-week threads - any preferences?

Sign me up for pic-a-day. I am hoping my work schedule will calm down enough for me to do pic-a-day.

I have no preference for how you break up the threads. The driving factor for needing daily threads would be how many folks participate.

Well we haven't got a whole lot of people signed up at present, but we can still be small but perfectly formed . The nature of the challenge is that people can join in once it starts. I think I'll go with one topic for each of the 4 weeks - not something we have done before, but a bit of innovation never hurt.

For anyone out on the sidelines who thinks they might fancy a try, I'd say give it a go. New people add more to the mix!

For myself, I'm rather looking forwards to getting my shooting boots back on

For the first time in a few weeks I saw something and thought - "that would make a good picture.." My February is going to be framed between A workshop on Macro photography is Edinburgh (2 Feb - thanks to ABramley) and a Dyxum meet in Cambridge (28 Feb - thanks to Dilettante).

I'm in for all 4 weeks, though the second weeks pics wont be posted until the third week. I need a challenge right now, and this is perfect.

I have decided on one bolt on for pic-a-day. I will use my RD-175 only now that I have it up and going. This should be a good showcase of what that old girl can do. Unfortunatly, I can't figure out how to use my 58mm f1.2 on there. It requires a chip to work on the body, and I don't have focus confirm on mine. As a result, a secondary limitation is that I can't use my beloved 58mm f1.2. The other restrictions using that body are that it also limits any attached lens to f6.7 and smaller apertures and ISO800 only, not to mention the 2x crop factor.
We shall see how long I can stand not having a preview before I take a shot!
