Ina angora: Sorry I didn't see this thread earlier. I've had two copies - two versions - for a few years and like them both buy for whatever reason, I don't use them as much as I should.

I believe from all I have read that the black versions are hit and miss. A friend of mine bought a black one recently despite my silver recommendation and he is not pleased with it. My versions are a 1966 M39 which I found in near mint condition and am earlier 1961 kiev/contax/Nikon RF mount (ugly mount).

Both are sharp enough to my eyes at f/2. The '61 has yellowing and produces warm images as a result. Not necessarily a bad thing and can be correctly quickly if not desired. The 1966 M39 is clear and with the M42 step up ring, it focuses out far enough for my use.

1961 RF followed by some images at f/2...

Some very lovely samples Mike.

The Kiev/RF mount version I picked was unfortunately frozen solid and I`m not great at dismantling and reassembling helicals. What I did find out though is the main lensblocks unscrew by hand and are interchangeable without loss of infinity focus. They just have a difefrent amount of metal shims inside (two in M42, one in Kiev/RF)!!
So I`m able to use my Kiev/RF lens on my M42 mount which has merely mild stiffness. My black copy from 1973, shown previously was pretty sharp but the `61 block has a more vintage look.

TY, Mike! those are really sharp! amazing how sharpness differs?
could we blame it on years/series/materials/aging due to bad storage conditions??
rather than black vs silver?
(mine, for one, isn't too sharp either).
love all the pics that you guys posted!!
do like the yellowish/sepia-ish cast!
