Hi all,
had a disaster yesterday, strap got caught around a table, camera snatched from hands and Metz flash ripped from top of my A700.

The damage is one side of the hotshoe on top of the camera is broken off, luckily other than a few paint chips that was the total of the damage.

Can anyone suggest a service centre in Brisbane Australia who are good with our Sony's?

I'll get the camera services while its in.

any help would be appreciated
cheers - Simon

well, after going to a few places and being quoted some scarey figures, Ive found out that Progear Australia in Sydney are the only people who can do the repairs, and most of the people I visited would have sent the camera there anyway!

On ringing Progear I found that they were fairly reasonable with prices, though I haven't got a fixed quote yet.

Fingers crossed.

interesting. Keep us updated on the repair cost.
I remember when I was calling around to have my beercan repaired the quote was $400+(I ended up fixing it myself). There are not many places in Australia that would service Sony gear and therefore the prices are astronomical.

Sorry was going to suggest Progear but thought it was pointless as you wanted somewhere in Brissy, interesting that they're the only place there is. They did a good job with FFB on my 5D BTW (it was free though!).

ok,an update on prices

to get hot shoe repaired and body serviced $130.76
Zeiss 16-80 (very loose) serviced and adjusted $198.00
Handling $17.00 GST $31.49 for a total of $346.36

I haven't got them back yet but will add a rundown of the result when I get them back.

Decided to go the a850 path today, Ive been needing a backup body, so the A700 will become that, am getting it with a Tamron 28-75 F2.8    :)

Ok, received camera and lens back.

Camera: externally very clean, sensor which had a couple of spots is now nice and clean. Broken hotshoe replaced and working fine. Have taken a few shots and everything seems to work as previously.

Lens: Zeiss 16-80 had very loose barrel. As you walked along the barrel would fully extend very easily.
Barrel is now very nice! Firm but not too firm in action.
A little tighter in the middle of its travel, but nothing to complain about. Test shots very sharp (as before).

Overall very happy with result.
Have now sent my 100 F2.8, beercan and an old xi lens down to have them cleaned and checked for fungus too :)

cheers - Simon

Good to see that there is someone around that is prepared to do good work in the repairs of camera quip and that your happy with their repairs.

Just for those here in oz, did you find their website or do they not have a web url? Just for future reference (hopefully never)

Another big thumbs up for the folk at Progear. They're very good to deal with. They're authorised Sony repairers. Their details are on the Sony Australia website here

Cheers, Frank

Hi again,

no I didn't find them from the web, I approached a camera service place up here and they said that they couldn't do Sony stuff and that they would have to send it to Progear.

They were good enough to give me the phone number and address and I contacted them direct.

Here are the details for anyone who is interested:
Progear Australia
Unit 12, 16 Aquatic Drive,
Frenchs Forest NSW 2086
p 02 9451 5311 f 02 9451 7237
e jan@progear.net.au
Trading Hours: 7.30 to 4.00 Monday to Friday

Jan Brown will probably be your first contact, she is very helpful

cheers - Simon

Hi all,

Does anyone have an estimate on how much it might cost to get a 70-400mm serviced and cleaned at Pro Gear? I've got quite a bit of dust in the first few elements (it is a dust pump after all) and wouldnt mind getting it cleaned out.

No effect on image quality that I can see (not expecting there to be either) but wouldnt mind getting it cleaned none the less.

A rough estimate would be great, as I know nothing about what is involved with this process.

Cheers,
Andrew

Thanks Craig. I was going to give them a call but thought it might be a bit late. I don't like it when those southerners play with time

Might have to wait until later in the year I think. Gotta pay of the A77 first...
