Last saturday, while I was strolling around, I somehow ended up slipping and hitting the ground really hard. On my backpack, I was carrying my a700. I had some bruises and stuff, but my a700 had a worse fate - somehow, the camera's aperture-turning-ring-thing(don't really know the name of it) went out of the camera while the mount remained screwed on the body(!!!) with my 35-70 f/4 on it! My heart stopped for a while, really.

After almost crying my eyes out of sorrow, I decided to try to repair it on-site. I picked up my girlfriend's dagger, I unscrewed the mount and after some trial-and-error, I finally menaged to put it back into place. The camera is working just fine now, but it got me worried: has this happenned to anyone here before? Should I be worried about it? Yesterday i went to shoot with the camera and it worked just fine. Is this something that normally happens?

Yes you should be worried...not about the camera but about the fact that your girlfriend carries a dagger!

if all works fine now, you may have succeeded to do a good repair. however, i would have the camera checked to make sure all is ok.

Ok, is not really a dagger. Wel call these kind of daggers "estiletes" here in Brazil, which, after I gave it some thought, would translate to "paper knife", I think.

I might be the only person here who cannot picture what you're talking about...?

I'm thinking he means the aperture operating ring directly behind the flange on the front of the camera. The ring with the pin on that turns the aperture lever on the lens.

I think that's what he means.

Is everything else working? Are you hearing any strange clicking or buzzing inside?

And how would that fly out of the camera 'while the mount remained screwed on the body(!!!) with my 35-70 f/4 on it!' ?

Syber. I will not get dragged into an argument with you again. I gave an opinion and I stick by it. It's obvious that English is not the OP's first language and I was trying to fill in the blanks. Metal can do strange things when put under stress as I'm sure you know so there is a possibility it could pop through however unlikely it may sound. If you don't agree with me then maybe you could suggest an alternative instead of being facetious.

I have no intentions of getting into any trouble on Dyxum so will now call it a day on this thread. I hope the OP sorts his problems out.

I'm not suggesting an argument. I'm waiting for the OP to explain what actually happened.

Yeah, exactly. Thanks.

English is not my primary language, really. Being at work while posting in a language you are not so proficient makes it even worse.

That's the funny part.

I really don't know how.

The metal part with the bright orange dot was kind of loose, but it wasn't loose enough to fit the aperture operating ring back into it. In fact, it was loose only at it's upper half. It made me wonder why it came out so easily and question this camera's past, since I got it used. That's why I am worried.

Thanks for your patience, I know this sounds really weird, but it happenned. I, myself, could not believe it. And I am really sorry for my lack of proficiency with the english language - I barely know these parts name in portuguese. Next time I will refer to the maintenance manual to try to make it clearer.
