Well I am glad you went! That's a very nice capture! I've spent some time recently in Weber and Echo canyons which is a main UP east/west line. I've got a lot to learn about when peak hours are. very early Saturday mornings I've had 5/6 six trains in an hour and a half. Midday -- not so much. Late afternoon seems to be busy.

Speaking of the BNSF they also can be seen here in Utah, though I seem to always miss them. James Belmont is always out and about and knows where and when to capture. This is a recent photo of his of a BNSF here in Salt Lake City: James Blemont BNFS in SLC photo

Wish I had the time and energy to be out shooting as much as he does.

As kids back in the 50/60s we used to love these wonderful fire breathing monsters. We used to sneak into the marshaling yards and climb all over them; I guess the workers turned a bit of a blind eye and made sure we didn't get into too much trouble.

I know they're dirty and smelly but what a shame they have almost vanished from the tracks.

Thank you, Walt! Yes, coming back to me now. I think you or another forum member posted a photo/s of the NHRR before. Most of my photos I don't process much other than basic levels tweaking, but I do like the effect that you have achieved with this photo.

This photo "Fog" I posted before a couple years ago. This version is a bit cropped for my web side header. This is one photo where I've reduce the clarity in ACR to accentuate the fog to give it a stronger winter fog mood! But it was very foggy already. Very early in the morning shot with my Maxxum 9 and T-max 100.


Heber Valley RR engine no. 618 is also a Baldwin built 2-8-0 Consolidation as is the New Hope and Ivyland no. 40.

I'm confused (nothing new there)! Samsung scanner? Or did Samsung make film? I've never seen that here. Tell us a little about the process you used. Interesting photo.

aye its the first time I've been on the train for years, and I'm now gutted I put the camera away, as there was some awesome sites to be shot along the way, just a shame you can't open the carriage door windows anymore, as the mucky windows near were I was sat would have spoilt things.

I also saw a couple of big train washers over at the Hull end, and its one of the things that I've never thought is how they do keep the trains clean, just a big car wash for trains but still made me chuckle.


I'm loving the steam images Kelly and Wross, Kelly the effect really makes it look like its in a snow storm, i like it.

I'll have to get off my arse and go to York to the railway museum there.
