Interesting post on SAR suggesting Sony may accelerate the change to mirrorless line up. Interesting I suppose because it it precisely that at the moment, but I think this is more in response to the rumours of an A950 or similar traditional DSLR coming in the next 6-12 months.
http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sonys-future-products-on-the-verge-of-a-big-change/ Without mentioning anything at all to do with EVFs or OVFs , I think it's probably better to throw all the eggs in one basket, especially since we've collectively told them it's fine to do so

Oh dear, does that mean disappointment for those expecting a super duper photo-centric FF in the Spring?

Is it EVF vs. OVF or A-mount vs. E-mount?

Sony will go completely mirror Less for e and a mount. New a mount cameras will be delayed to make mirrorless. The next ff a mount will be mirrorless no way that they will make a ovf. They want to be different than Nikon and Canon.

I believe Sony will make another OVF camera one day soon enough. It will have the a900 viewfinder with an M screen and video overlay. It will also have the new hot shoe which will accept an EVF viewfinder. Keep in mind that Sony currently makes an OVF viewfinder option for the RX-1. Why would they bother with that if they don't have some stitch of respect for optical purists?
I get your point... But I'd bet a tub of pulled pork that Sony would gladly trade their entire system for exactly what CaNikon both have right now. They'd trade places if they could. |

No, just an A-mount A99 style cam without the mirror, 36 MP. Don't think the OVF ever comes back. Just a guess.. |

Seriously though, it's a bit, no a lot, of a stretch to liken the RX-1 add on VF to the OVF of a DSLR.
Things are changing and the movement towards more electronic, mirrorless systems should leave Sony in a good position and better equipped to deal with what may be coming. Just a thought! |

After having Minolta/Sony for the last 25 years i switched to Nikon Last month - i bought a used D3s.
My lenses are now on ebay and i will have to buy new lenses (this hurts) I don't want to go to deep into the why i did that - but i'm pretty sure that if Nikon would start with EVF they would give the customer options - like they do now with the D4/D800/D600 - i was happy with my A850 (until SSS was breaking) but for an upgrade i would have had to invest into the A99 and but i prefer a camera with OVF. So it came to the question: Sell my stuff and change to something that matches what i want or take what Sony offers and get along with it... For me it seems that the problem of SONY is that the market share for their FF is so low that they can't offer options in a way that they make profit out of it - where as Nikon for example can position there products - you need speed and high iso - take the D4 - you need high resolution for large prints - take the D800 - you are on a budget - take the D600. I'm also pretty sure that they will release a D400 with a very hight pixel density APS-C sensor for people needing reach. It's actually the current roadmap of SONY that made me change the system for the first time...X-300, XD-7, 8000i, 7, A700, A850 but now it's a D3s It's hard to give away the 24/2, 135/1,8 and 200/2,8 |

Nevermind!
You may have divorced your beautiful lady (Sony) but she will still welcome you back and forgive you if it hurts too much!

Lots of good deals on older models right now. You will probably get a bad back carrying that monster around. Don't rule out a secondary "light" mirrorless system like most have, who knows before too long the D3s may be for sale as well. |

Sony's DSLR roadmap ended with the RX-1.
Imagine an RX-2 with a 24-135 Zeiss lens, f/2.5-4, with the built-in crop feature allowing it to work as a 270/4. It and the RX-1 together would take up less space than the 70-300G lens. Why make interchangeable lens cameras at all any more when one can design a better lens/camera combination? I think I'll keep my A900 with its OVF for ever...but as a platform for the 500mmReflex only, and buy an RX-1 even though it's not image stabilized and has no viewfinder. I've just been on a trip to the Yucatan and, with a Tam24135, a Min85/1.4, an STF and a 100300, my knees are shot. An Rx-1 and (my postulated) RX-2 would be worth every penny. |
