Since we've been put off until late 2012 for new Alpha full frame... I share these new images found that I haven't seen before. May as well enjoy the fantasy until the reality arrives...

Is there any chance that this is the real a99? Perhaps just a demo model or tech demonstrator?
Although I'm not going to go out and get one, I'll still be interested to see what it looks like and the differences between in and the a77. Best regards Gavin |

Very unlikely. This one looks like it has a prism, but Sony made it clear that the next FF camera will be SLT.
However, I will be the happiest guy if they managed to make an hybrid system with both EVF and OVF (and more important and easy to do - hybrid that can shoot through the mirror or with flipping the mirror!). |

If only they had the good sense to continue to keep the power switch and shutter release separate.

Nice cut 'n paste but not very likely that the new A99 / A85 will look like this monster. I'm thinking more of a slightly bigger A77...
@blackworx: I'm using the A77 and the position of the on-off switch is no problem at all for me. |

I'd like to see a control wheel on the lefthand side rear, 3 in total. Tri-Navi for the rest of us. Would also help make up for ditching the dedicated exposure compensation dials from ealier models (7, 9, 7D). Oh, and keep the dedicated Steady Shot switch.

How disappointing.. I know i am in a minority around here, but I love a real TTL VF. None of these EVF cameras can come anywhere near close to the optical quality the A900's VF gives. I guess i was right in putting off any Sony purchases.. if they continue to go the SLT route, my next camera will not be a Sony. I will miss this comunity. :( |

I don't think you are in a Minority... and I think that Sony realizes this as well. The question is how they will act on this info....
Hold on a bit more madcat! All hope is not lost I think! I have been reading all the same crap as everyone else, but I have a different take on it all. (disclaimer - this is all my own speculation based on the rumour mill, hints and others opinions) I believe Sony has listened. Yes, I also believe that they will eventually drop the pentaprism.... but not yet. The technology, while good, is not yet good enough to completely drop the prism. I think we will see new, upgraded versions of the A900/A850 with a 50+ megapixel sensor retaining that lovely Prism viewfinder everyone loves. The A99 I believe will be a Pro aimed SLT based action camera with very competitive specs and price tag. High speed, BIG buffer, hopefully in the 25 mp range I have read about at one forum though possibly higher(please NO Sony... NOOOOO) And above all... Good low light performance. While I would prefer the pentaprism myself, I can't afford a Sony "D4" any more than I can the $6000 Nikon, but I just MIGHT be able to afford the SLT A99 with maybe a price tag of around $3000 US? I hope, I hope, I hope..... .........For me, all of this would be moot if they had only put the lovely 16MP sensor from the A580 into the A77. I would be in line to buy it or already have it. While I will/might now enjoy the advantages of FF I will be making the switch only because I have to for decent low light and high speed performance. The crop frame is fine for my favourite shooting. (windsurfing and kiteboarding in often dark and cloudy conditions) If I am totally out to lunch on the A99, I too will likely have to leave Sony and switch systems. I really, REALLY don't want to do this! Cheers all Edited by WestCoastCannuck - 18 January 2012 at 00:34 |

Within a few years all camerabrands will have EVF's for their (semi-)procamera's. I'm convinced about that. Offcourse the A77 is the first attempt to build a serious camera with EVF and quality will improve in the next generation. I'd like to say about HQ-EVF: "It's a small step for Sony but a giant leap for photgraphers"

IMO, Sony SLT-A9x is only a matter of time. It will build upon A77, a FF SLT choice.
DSLR-A9xx (or A8x) will happen as well. As for Live-View or not, Sony is likely to offer ALL options, including the traditional VF, and a flip of a switch to OLED defined VF. Sony has already done this with Sony A55 and Sony A580 duo. With the 9-series, it will be on a grander scale. |

Mirror-flip for MF?
I hope that the a99 will feature mirror-flip for manual focus. I know that Sony do not like expensive moving parts like the mirror in a traditional SLR. But flipping the mirror when changing from AF to MF is a much more simple thing. It does not have to flip very fast with high timing precision. And since it will not flip for every photo it can be made less sturdy. Would be really nice to have that extra light for e.g. night sky photography. There really is not much need for PDAF or focus tracking when aiming the lens at the Moon, planets or stars. When the AF module does not need the light, how about sharing to the sensor? I assume that the a99 will be more expensive than the a77. I think many photographers would be willing to pay a little extra for a feature like this. Sorry if I am repeating what others have said before. I know that many have wished for general ability to flip the translucent mirrot, but I do not know if I have read about coupling it to MF mode. If it has been said before... well, I guess it is worth repeating
