darosa, I almost manage to convince myself that I don't need m-mount adapter and some voigtlander lenses, but now you opened the question again...
The fact that the lenses are really small and still very good makes it very attractive... Although I more think about the wide-normal range (24-50mm) and not UWA. If I want small UWA, I might first give the Sony 16/2.8 a try. |

IMHO, 16mm (=24mm FOV in FF-equiv) doesn't qualify as "UWA." Wide, sure; but I don't think "ultra-wide" territory comes until about 20mm in FF-equiv terms, or 14mm on aps-c... fwiw & ymmv & all that - Steve S. |

I'd been thinking of getting the 5N & (un)fortunately went on holiday last week & saw the twin lens kit in Dixons Duty Free - good price, demo model but pretty clean, full warranty so took the plunge.
Bad Richard ! I really like most aspects but wonder if others keep pressing the circular dial with the ball of the thumb, really annoying ! I find the focus a bit slow after the A700, but bearable so far. Looking forward to reading through this thread to see how you guys are managing. Mine says its version 1.0 - is that the latest or are there any updates yet ? One last thing, am I right in thinking the UK versions don't have GPS ? I'll post some shots when the jet lag wears off! Many thanks RT |

You illustrate an important point for me. I never spent very much on E-mount lenses (only the 16, so far):
1) Only A-mount lenses (duh!) can work with LA-EA2, to give the quick focus that you liked on a700 2) The E-mount zooms (so far) lose another 1/3 to 1/2 stop on their max aperture, probably to accommodate the anti-shake mechanism. 3) The E-mount lenses aren't pancakes. That is a quintessential part of the NEX5n's signature. ...so I stocked up on LA-EA1 (could get EA2 someday) and learned to live without the anti-shake and CA/Vignette/Distortion corrections that NEX5n automatically applies to E-mount lenses. But let some pancakes out and I could change my mind! |

Despite some mention of GPS on at least one website, afaik no NEXs have GPS. No mention in Gary Friedman's book (recommended!) so I'm pretty confident there is none. There is only V 1.0 at present. |

I haven't used my A700 much since buying one. The sensor and form factor are tough to resist for general use. Were I to do portraits or macros i'd switch back but the NEX5n is much better as a walk around camera in my view. I love the size.

Help/Advice Please.
I've been reviewing the RAW photos I took on the first couple of days with the 5N and just noticed several instances where the same photo appears twice or three times, sometimes with adjacent numbers & sometimes a couple of "frames" away. They were just fun shots at a party so no big deal & I haven't noticed it again on later files but curious to know what might have happened ?? SD card was Sandisc Cl 10. Any thoughts anyone ? Yours confusedly RT PS Please don't ask why I was using (only) RAW for fun shots at a party - lets call it operator error !! Ooops

I'm thinking of taking the plunge on the LA-EA2 for a 5N (oh such a snappy little name eh?) as not really taken with the kit lens but was wondering if anyone has any experience with any of my existing alpha lenses - cz 16-80, Sony 2.8/100 macro, old trusty beer can and sigma 10-20? If not I guess I can report back when I have news!
BTW I think Darosa's three images at the top of this page are seriously wonderful and have half a mind to blow the whole budget and more on that one lens... |
