I thought my KM-7D had died while on a cruise back in Oct of 2010, where it just wouldn't take a picture with the shutter button. So to make do while on the cruise I bought a Canon P&S to hold me over. Finally I decided the P&S wasn't enough for me anymore and I just bought the Sony a77 with the kit 16-50 f2.8 lens. Also bought the Sony 70-300G lens.

Now just after receiving the a77, for the heck of it I decided to try out the 7D again. So I charged up the battery, and gave it a shot - lo and behold it takes pictures just fine, and with different lenses! Now I wonder if perhaps the 7D had just over-heated or something while on the cruise that caused this. I have no idea, but after trying out the 7D for about an hour - it's working like new again.

Unfortunately the wife won't let me keep both bodies, and I want to hang on to the a77 now. So I'm deciding to sell the 7D, Vertical Grip and some lenses. But I have no idea what these can go for right now. Any idea how I can determine what to sell this 7D gear for? Thanks in advance!

7D's often turn up in the buy/sell right here on Dyxum and you can get a feel for prices. Also look in the 'Old Items' area to check out sold prices fro your lenses etc.

Tell your wife that you are checking sale prices (no lie) and enjoy it for a few more weeks before you sell it.

They don't fetch a great deal, so you might be able to persuade 'the missus' that you are doing your bit to preserve a bit a photographic heritage.
Away until August 2014 at the earliest.

Thanks Nigel. As much as I'd like to keep the 7D as a second body I do need to recoup some of my a77 investment, even if it's not that much. Plus the wife isn't big into photographic heritage. :(
But I'm quite happy to report that my Sigma Bigma (EX DG model) and Sigma 105 f2.8 EX Macro work just fine with my a77, no re-chipping needed. :) So that's 2 lenses I'll be hanging on to.

So I'll be putting up for sale my 7D, vertical grip, RC-1000 remote, Tamron 2.0 TC, KM 28-75 f2.8 and KM 18-200 lenses. Hopefully I can get a fair price for these.

FWIW I have a 7D that suffered from the dreaded image stabilizer lurgy (death-rattle on startup, couldn't release shutter...). However I found that if I left it alone for a few days it would work again - for a while. Unfortunately that window of functionality got shorter and shorter, and now it's just a couple of clicks. Sony and private repair places say they can't get the parts to fix it. Even if they could, I wouldn't spend much on it, because there are other horrors waiting in the wings, like the black-frame pox that killed my 5D. I'm really hoping the Sony cameras last longer than my KMs.
In my bag: a850 / M17-35G / CZ24-70 / S70-300G / M100m / KM5600HSD. Backup: a55 / KM11-18 / CZ16-80 / S75-300

I wonder who's the ALPHA ... You already bought the A77, so what's there for her to gain except dominance ...

No no, show her you're the ALPHA-male and stick to your plan and keep both the bodies .. and take her out for a nice candle-light diner in a good, romantic restaurant.

Let her buy clothes and shoes .. but show her you're the ALPHA-male and stick to your plan to keep both cameras.

Women don't want week man listening to them, they want strong men with character. Men that stand strong, warriors, kings, knights ... pffft never mind

Your Vertical grip, if in good shape could fetch as much as $200 to the right person.

Your 7D could have First frame black issues or it could have the Antishake issue described by another poster. While a 7D could still sell for $350, that is with a recent FFB fix. You should list your copy with full disclosure (e.g. it did not work before but now it does) and my _guess_ is that you could get $150 to $200 for it... Hardly worth the hassle of selling, especially if you want to keep your name as a good seller. (e.g. latent failure)

My Alpha 7 is waiting for an Antishake transplant - Have the donor camera, just need to make the time.

Definately wasn't the FFB issue, and I don't think it was Antishake related either. Could it have been heat related perhaps? It was quite warm in the 90s(F) when I was there.

Good point, I'll amend my post for that.
