There two totally different lens. The 135 stf is a special effect lens it has 4 different soft focus settings and is MF. The cz 135 is a super fast telephoto good for low light sport shots and portraits and even some macro shots.

masterchief -- stf is not the same thing as the 100mm soft focus lens.. different lenses.. but it is manual focus.. it is a lens designed for very sharp in focus images and "ideal" bokeh for the out of focus areas. I believe the soft focus uses spherical aberration (whereas the stf uses a apodization filter).

see the excellent review stf review by mladen

but yes it is a specialty lens that is manual focus and many have reported is difficult to use with the small viewfinders of the 5d and alpha..

The STF and the CZ135 although with the same range have a different functions/uses.

STF gives you a very creamy bokeh while the Zeiss will give a fast razor sharp pics even at wide open...

I can certainly say that the CZ lens has faster auto focus.

I just saw a Canon EF 135/2.8 softfocus lens at BH for 269 USD. (and it's AF) A comparison between different manufacturers would be interesting too.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I am now pondering the question of whether to augment my 135 STF with the ZA.

Someone give me a reason why I don't need to, especially given my current lens lineup.

I do not think getting a second 135mm will augment the old one. It will just compete with it to be the one you put on the camera. Why not get the 85/1.4 instead? It will augment your lineup. 85mm is a great focal length to have on both the A900 and the A700.

I use both on my A900, but the Zeiss gets a lot more use thanks to much better low light capability and AF.
