Most of our photographic equipment isn't really cheap and some of them cost a real fortune.
Luckily, there are many little cheap things that can make our "life" easier and some of them are actually among the most important goodies we can have in our bag.
Here are two things that I use very often and that I didn't see discussed in our forum.

Lens pen
A must have IMHO. I use it along with my blower most of the time.


Kodak lens clean paper
A cheap but safe solutions for lens cleaning. Part of my bag all the time too.

I concure on the lens pen...they work wonders on things like fingerprints and specs of saliva or other dried on gook. They only last a limited amount of time, and then you have to replace them, but they are worth it for sure.

Haven't found a lens pen yet, but it's high on my list. Every bag and jacket should have one in a side pocket. Let's hope there aren't any bogus copies around.

Try Ritz, they carry them...and the other local store in my area (National Camera) carries a version of them too...
It is a product that is made by some generic company, and gets rebranded by everyone who sells them...

Well, it's not that I can't actually find them, it's just that I don't feel like ordering one or more separately and paying a lot for shipping. The shops I've bought gear from until now didn't have them in stock. That's all.

My 1st thought on a favorite cheap accessory is the Giotto air rocket. Looks like a fat missile and shoots out a strong blast of air. Works great on the sensorand fronts of lenses w/o touching.

I particularly like my beenbag.
My girlfriend made it for me, it has a zipper, so that I can empty it when boarding, and just fill it up with rice or something when I arrive.
Total cost: a few dollars and an few hours of handy work.

I like my little battery and card wallet. I have one for each camera that holds two extra batteries and 2 extra CF cards in each. They are small enough to fit under a lens while attached to the camera w/grip - also keeps the camera level in my case.

I bought several Buxton wallets on clearance (the fat ones that hold about 20 credit cards) and cut out the credit card accordian holder. The wide section holds the batteries and the thinner section holds the CF cards.

I also agree with the Lenspen - I never leave home without one. Also, microfiber cloth!

A few things that always go in my bag: an umbrella (micro sized, aluminium/glasfiber, won on lottery,it fits nicely in a lowepro aw200 slingshot with lots of room left i.e for a lens or flash) and a towel (also in the same compartment). I also have on the outside with the monopod a second umbrella for "just in case".

And i might say, it has not rained a singel day since i put the umbrellas in the bag, at least not when im outside shooting. And the towel is 40cm*40cm, and is just good to have with you.

I feel really good...I have both (pen and lens paper) for a long time and use them often.

A hot shoe bubble level would also make a very handy small accessory. Dunno if they're available for the Minolta shoe mount.

And what about lens cap retaining cords?

Tell you what I'd like to find - a plastic case for spare batteries - I don't know what I did with the keeper that came with my original battery, but both the other batteries I have (Uniross and 7-day shop generic) came without one.

Until I find something, I've ended up buying a medium size pill box from Muji - this is about the right size but too shallow - however if you cut the lid off you can secure a battery into it with an elastic band and it keeps the battery contacts away from anything else.

I bought a Peli micro case for all the 'odds and sods'.

It was around a tenner and holds two spare batteries securely.

I am also told it floats. Must try to check that out someday -NOT.
