I recently got a Tam 28 F2.5 from e-bay for L15 after a few tests and actual location shots I rate it as my best lens, even sharper than my Minolta 50mm f1.7 There doesn't seem to be many posts about Tamron adaptal lenses here, does anybody else rate them? I also have the SP 70 - 210 F3.5 and a 105m F2.5 both give cracking results.

I have the Tamron 90mm f2.5 macro, with the matched t/c to give 1:1. 18 months ago it cost me L70 off eBay, the going rate now seems to be around L35-L45
Performance is brilliant, and superb build means it remains my favourite lens, even though I now have a newer AF version! I only use it on my Canon A-1 though, so can't really offer a direct comparison. All I can say against it, is that the adaptall t/c is a nightmare to use! I am interested to hear how highly you rate the 28mm, I did always wonder. Perhaps I will pick one up, though I am really looking for the Kiron 28 f2 or 24 f2. |

I've mentioned adaptal's elsewhere, earlier today in fact. My favorite is the 500/8 RF, but also like the 200/3.5, 90/2.5 and the 24/2.5. All are sharp wide open so stopping down is not a big issue, except for the 90mm macro.
It's nice to have lenses that survive from MF days. Only wish my Rokkors were as usable. |

I have the Adaptall II 'small' 28-70 & 70-210 & the older 28-50 & 80-210 - all with Fujica ST mounts to fit my old film SLRs - I've tried the 70-210 with a MAF mount when I first got my 5D - excellent results - but not used much now after getting Minolta AF lenses covering the same ranges...
...but getting extra MAF mounts seems to be the expensive part of the equation ! ...I've been wanting to pick up either a 500/8 or 90mm macro, but haven't seen any on eBay at good prices - just not looking at the right time, I guess... ...what I really wouldn't mind, but have only seen once on eBay, is the SP 17mm with built-in filters. [If anyones interested, I have some original 80'ish brochures for the range (although won't be able to get hold of 'em for a couple of mths) - could scan & make available ?] [EDIT: The brochures I have are on the site Rob mentions below, so no need...] IDM Edited by IanMiddy - 23 September 2006 at 22:38 |

I love Tamron adaptall lenses and have too many to list (Over a dozen) I use them with the M42 mount and KM to M42 adaptor (Hong Kong) and one rare hard to find Tamron Minolta AF mount. At present I am using a loaned A100 and the results from the old Tamrom lenses is up to the 10 million pixels it offers. I have just had a 40cm X 60cm poster printed from a shoot from the 35 - 135 zoom model number 22A which cost L15, big problem was getting rid of the A100 noise but no problem with the Tams sharpness. My fav lens is my 35 - 210 SP and the cracking 70 - 210 constant F 3.5. The 28mm 2.5 and 28 - 70 zoom also gets a lot of use.
This is about the best Tamron info site I have found http://www.adaptall-2.com http://www.adaptall-2.com |

Rob,
Quick question. Will this adaptall work with the M42 adapter? M42 adaptall or can you get away with this only? Maxxum |

Both will work BUT with the M42 mount you also need the Mimolta AF to M42 lens adaptor to use M42 lenses on your camera, an essential bit of kit anyway for all those excellent cheap M42 leneses. The tamron M AF mount will probably go for mega bucks although M42 ones are also fetching a premium. Cheapest way to get a M42 mount is to keep looking for a cheap unwanted tamron lens such as the old 70-210 zoom with an attached M42 mount. there is no focus problem using a Tamron adaptall mount M42 and a second M42 minolta adaptor. Neither of the mounts offer auto stop down but metering works fine using AP stop down mode, although I find it usually needs + 2/3 exposure comp. The only DSLR to offer full auto stop down and better metering opinions with Tamron adaptall lenses is the Pentax.

Hello everyone! I am pleased that people are finding my new adaptall-2.com web site somewhat useful. I have a ton of new stuff to add to the site when time from "real work" permits.
I just today came across the Dyxum.com web site and what is really neat are peoples's experiences using MF Tamron lenses with autofocus cameras. I recently received an email in which was suggested that I add a new section to the web site which is dedicated to providing information about using older Tamron lenses with modern AF cameras. I think this is an excellent idea, and invite everyone to share their knowledge, experiences, photos or whatever, once I have the new section up on the site. Feel free to start sending whatever info you think would be useful to others. Soon (hopefully) I will also add a user forum to the site. Best regards to everyone! |
