Very nice set. The light is maybe a little flat but that's only a problem for a few of them. I like 16 a lot, wouldn't mind seeing a b&w version of it eventually. Great detail in 17, you made the right choice for an unforgiving sky and the fact that the bird is white is what makes it work. White on white. Number 10 is the type of shot I like because I know I'd gravitate immediately to taking its photo, too. I'm usually not "daring" enough and would go for a straight on, very 2 dimensional photo so I always enjoy when shots like these are taken from a side angle, and work. I like 8 but wonder what it might look like from a wider angle perspective. Exif data is stripped so I can't see focal length, anyway, just curious. The first shot is of course a nice way to start up the series, it gives one a great idea as to the overall atmosphere of the place.

Thanks Brian :)
I like #16 as well, I like pictures of random people somehow... normally I am not brave/daring enough to take them (pretty much like you with the #10-type shot), but this time I tried to sneak a few
#17 I am very happy with, it was difficult to keep up with the swoosing and swooping of the seagulls, they're so fast! So how does this exif-thing work? I know the info is available on flickr but then you'd have to go to there and track down the photo to find it. Any way I can make the exif-data more readily available? |

I´m trying to get braver with shoting strangers, this weekend I took som pic of an ice skater and hes dog out on a lake, he asked if I put my pics up somwhere on the net and I gave him short direction about where too look and the day after he sent me a mail. He got som pics and I got a new fan

Ilse - my first thought when seeing these was that they needed a boost in contrast. Interestingly, the one that really caught my eye is the very one that you were working on. I've worked up a colour version that you might like to see - all I did was apply an "S-curve" to it in photoshop, and crop the sky out (let me know if you want to see it). I like your B&W, however, crop down to remove the sky. I'd apply more contrast to it as well. Get those blacks in the shadows really black. HTH - Frank |

@Christer: Thanks
Shooting strangers is quite a lot of fun. And there was one guy who was teasing me because of my big camera and me being a papparazzi, but then posed for me on the pic posted below, which was quite cool. I asked him and his wife to leave their email address, but they didn't feel like it apparently... I'm still quite happy with the pic though
@Frank: Yes, I can see how a bit more contrast might work, I'll go and see if I can work on that. I'd definitely be interested to see your colour version of #16. I did work a bit on the levels before I converted to B&W. Didn't dare to add too much more contrast though because it mostly seemed to affect the stone walls behind the guy, and what with him wearing such a dark-coloured jacket it was making it a bit too dark overall and blending them too much together... But I'll have another go

Ilse - this is my take on the image I discussed before:
The colours may be a bit too punchy for some.... Cheers, Frank |

Thanks Frank, looks a bit like the way I made it before I turned it into B&W (no idea whether altering the colours makes any difference to the B&W conversion really, thought it might...), but with a bit more contrast
I think the dog's turned out a bit more red than it was, but I'd say it looks good otherwise
