We will be waiting for your pics, today I am going to pick my new Sigma 17-70, I hope it doesnt have BF problems like the former.

But if I continue having problems, maybe I will finish with a Tamron 17-50

I got it from www.kamerashop.dk - a danish store, and I ordered about a month and a half ago - just to be first in line when Tamron got around to actually ship :)

Ok, mounted it - works great :)

Picture time:

Got the box:

Yep, it's the right one:

In all it's beauty:

Missed focus with the old sigma, but it's minolta mount for sure:

Switched lenses, the sigma, shot with the Tamron, 50 mm, f2,8:

Same image, f7,1:

Lets see the beauty on camera:

So far it seems like an extremely nice lens, need to do further testing off course. I think that it has a very slight tendency to focus a bit more to the back than dead center, but the part I focus on is clearly in focus.

BTW, the postman all so brought me the Metz 54 MZ-4i flash that I used to do the shots, what a nice flash.

all in all, I'm one happy camper.

This is great!

You know depth of field typically extends behind the focus area for about 2/3 the depth of field, while the 1/3 is in front.

that's great - in that case my kit lens has a slight mis focus, and this is DEAD ON.
Getting better and better :)

Well, only very roughly. At larger magnifications DOF becomes more and more symmetrical.

Keep posting, we (at least me) can't wait to see more test shots from this lens :-) And also your comments about build quality, feel etc. Thanks for sharing.

I was all so referring to my shots at 2.8, at smaller apertures I haven't noticed anything.

Will do proper testing this weekend - so dark now that I can only shoot indoors with the flash .... which is a great chance to test the Metz out.

By the way, in very dark areas I got it to hunt for autofocus, but overall it seems to do a very fine job at autofocusing.

Build seems very good.

I only have the kit lenses, and the Minolta 50 1.7 to compare to, and this is really A LOT better, quite a different league :)

It looks good on the 5D I think :)
