Any local Dyxum members planning to attend The Digital Show 2013 at Jeffs Shed in Melbourne this weekend 13-15 September? I'm going down for a look on Sunday and would be happy to meet up before/after/during if it suits.

Incidentally, if you pre-register online ( www.thedigitalshow.com.au ) , you'll save yourself the $20 entrance fee

Cheers

Dave

Hi Dave,

I plan on going to the show, but probably on Friday.

I noticed, though, that there is no Sony stand there.

I used to go to the PMA Exposition at Jeff's Shed back when Sony had a stand with lots of DSLRs and various lenses as well as point and shoot cameras, plus mock-ups of their forthcoming cameras and lenses locked away behind glass. You could take shots of various items and talk to knowledgeable people.
They long since gave up bothering to turn up which is a pity, because the other major makers of cameras, lenses, accessories, and software continue to be there and no doubt boost their sales as a result. I have however, continued to look in although not every year.
It's worth visiting simply for the wealth of stuff on display, the free instructional demos and talks, and some very well displayed showcase images. However, I'm tied up over the days it's on this year and won't be there.
Have to try to catch up sometime else.
Joe

Hope you guys enjoyed the The Digital Show! Rosie (we haven't met yet), so sorry to see you have destroyed your gear.
I dropped into the Melbourne Camera Market in Box Hill instead, and picked up a Min 24/2.8 in pristine condition for $50, which I'm rather chuffed about. A few other bits and pieces there, like a tilt shift Rokkor for around $900, a tatty looking Sony 70-200/2.8 G for $1100, and a nice looking 35/1.4G for the same. Maybe I picked up the only bargain in our system there ?
S A900, A55, A77, M 9, 9000, SRT101, and too many lenses.

It was an interesting show, but really disappointed Sony didn't bother to put in an appearance. The only Sony camera to be seen was a NEX at the Zeiss lens stand and a couple of NEX-based Hasselblad Lunars... Very sad. Needless to say Nikon, Canon, Fujifilm, Leica & Olympus and others were there big time, along with reps from Sigma and Tamron etc. Sony Australia marketing folk deserve a big kick where the sun doesn't shine IMO

Best part of the show for me was the presentation from DXO re their Optics Pro and other software and was good to discuss workflows and tips with their head of software development.

Glad I went, but feeling very unappreciated by Sony!!!!

As Dave said, this is the closest to Sony gear I've seen

Hi Common Aussie,

There are a few of us in the SEQ area who are quite active.

I know that the missus and I would be interested in an evening/night shoot, depending on the date I guess.

Cheers,
Andrew

Anyone in Melbourne going to be out for the White Night festival throughout the evening of 22/23 February?
Lots of spectacular displays, performances, installations, light shows and other photo opportunities for those interested in getting out with their tripods.
I'm planning to have a look, and if I get anything worthwhile I'll post in the Open Views forum.

Anyone in the Melbourne area fancy a meet-up in late November?

I'm not sure of the exact dates yet, but I've been asked to do a courier trip from 19-25 November...

Bob,
It would be a pleasure to hook up sometime late November.
Hope a few others from around here can make it as well.
Melbourne is looking great in the Spring, and there's so much to see and photograph.
Looking forward to locking something in once you confirm a date, and perhaps you could have a think about anything in particular you'd like to see and do, by referring to the web, or having a glance at the Melbourne album on my FlickrPro site (My Link below my post).
Cheers,
Joe
