I have been thinking of get either the CZ 24 f/2.0 or an older Minolta 24 f/2.8 lens. What I'd like to know for the FF shooter that either have both or used both lenses, is there any vingetting with either of these lens wide open on the A900? If so, which one has the least vingetting?

Big price difference between the two. I think the 24/2 Zeiss is a lot sharper with less vignetting, flare and CA, but U love my Minolta 24/2.8 RS for Infrared. That said, I only paid $200 for my 24/2.8 Minolta and it was definitely worth it.

Vignetting shouldn't be a concern. It's very easy to automatically remove in post processing, and the newer cameras (a77) remove it for in-camera jpeg's.
The CZ 24 f/2 stays glued to my a850. It's perhaps my favorite lens. Here's a comparrison with several lenses, including the Minolta 24/2.8 by artaphot. Here's a good quote from the article. "To say it simply: the image quality of the 2/24mm @ f2 is comparable to the image quality of the ZA 2.8/24-70mm @ f 11 – apart from vignetting, of course, which is quite pronounced at f2." As I said, vignetting is easily removed in post. Graham |

You can compare the vignetting of both lenses in Kurt Munger's reviews (scroll far down for the fullframe (A900) results.
Minolta 24mm f2.8 Zeiss 24mm f2.0 If you compare them at the same aperture, the Zeisss has less vignetting. I am using the Zeiss on A77 and A580 and I have also tried it on A900. It is a fabulous lens. I have sold my Minolta 28mm f2.0 for it, which was a good lens, but the Zeiss is simply better, especially wide open. |

I have the Minolta AF 24 on my A850 and found it has no noticable distortion or vinyetting at f2.8 even with the factory hood attached.
The sweet spots for this lens are from f8-f11. I find this lens sharp at all f stops but very sharp at the sweet spots. Monolta colors are superb. |

Thanks for the info everyone. From what I'm seeing the CZ 24 is sharper then the Minolta 24 but it also is much heavier. Now I just have to decide if I want to traid weight for sharpness.
