Topic: which MD to Sony adapterPosted: 31 January 2012 at 09:21 |

I bought a cheap MD lens from eBay and now looking for a MD - Sony adapter. There is one with a lens and one doesn't. The one with a lens says it can focus to infinity, but I am afraid the glass will degrade the picture quality. The lens I bought is a 135mm F2.8 macro, so, I don't really need to focus to infinity. should I get the one without the lens? will it work at close focus distance?
thanks in advanced. |

I have done something similar by purchasing an MD 100mm f4 Macro lens, and using an adapter without glass, which acts as a short extension ring as well, increasing magnification slightly. So I have no infinity focus. But lets me get into macro photography cheaply. I am a little confused by your MD 135 Macro lens though - not listed amongs Macro MD lenses on sites I have looked at. Is it possible it is designed to be used only with macro-bellows? Maybe somebody else will know. If that is the case, I can't see that adding a glassless adapter to bellows would present an issue.

The glassless adapter will give best quality, but won't focus to infinity. If you have an adapter with glass in it you might be able to remove the glass elements and use it like a glassless one.
If you have a NEX, you can get adapters that are both glassless and will focus to infinity... |

Hi
I bought a "glassed" adaptor for my old Canon FD lenses to fit my Sonys & the 50mm 1.8 lens (which was very good in its day) gives lovely results. I haven't got access to my photos at present but if you would like me to post some samples later please let me know. When I say 'lovely' - I haven't gone rooting around the corners at 100% but certainly the sharpness & rendition is perfectly OK for all normal purposes. I used - and have again - a company on ebay called Roxen who seem very efficient and well priced - not always the cheapest but close enough, better delivery times than some sellers. Hope this helps & Good luck RT |

I bought a 'glassed' adaptor for a Minolta Md 50mm f2 and a Sigma MD fit 24mm f2.8.
Although the results from the Minolta were better than with the Sigma, neither gave satisfactory results, producing a lot of PF. This may have been down to the quality of the adaptor in question. I gave up on the experiment. Use MD lenses were they belong, on Minolta MF cameras. |
