I need spare batteries for my new second-hand A390:

1 - Sony website no longer offers NP-FH50
2 - Numerous adverts offer a single replacement for "FH-40; -50; -60; and -90"
Please, can anyone confirm or contradict this from EXPERIENCE?
3 - Incidentally, in the past I've been very disappointed with "compatibles" and low-priced** "new genuine sony" but been OK with "used genuine sony" sold singly.
4 - Please can anyone comment from EXPERIENCE on Duracell or Energizer equivalents?

5 - As this must be a well-trodden path, might Dyxum open a battery forum?

And ain't I the living proof!

**I found that these were 5 or 7 grams lighter than the real thing, as others have found before me.

From what I understand the Duracell and Energizer are rebrands and identical to the Sony. I do have a Duracell for my KM 7D and never had any problems with it although they has been on the shelf for many years now.

You did post in the proper sub forum, it also could have gone in Other photo topics and I will also move it (but leave it anchored here) to the Want to Buy/Trade sub forum. But no, I don't see any need for a Batteries sub forum. IMHO

Yes, we can confirm the above things through the experience of shopping online.

If you're curious, the 60 and 90 variants are higher capacity and physically larger batteries. Those are compatible with camcorders that hang batteries off their rear ends, but they're not compatible with A-mount cameras.

According to the A390 manual, 'the NP-FH30 and NP-FH40 cannot be used.' I don't know why. Maybe they're lower capacity and smaller, so they don't fit in A-mount cameras either. If that's not the reason, maybe the third party providers have eliminated whatever incompatibilities existed among those original Sony offerings.

1 - stiuskr - thanks for your reply. I note however that sony specify their NP-FH50 at 870-900mAH while Duracell specify their equivalent DR9700A at 650mAH.

2 - sybercitizen - thanks for your reply.

I believe I'll stick to either sony "used genuine" or equivalents from Duracell or Energizer - the last two presumably being reliable sources.

If I find otherwise, I'll post accordingly.
