Hello

I have a doubt, can the old OM 50/1.8 Zuiko lens be mounted on a Sony Alpha body?

Thanks

Not without putting on a new mount which can be done.
However I wonder if the 50/1.8 is worth the effort to do that.

I use one on a Nex, allthough sharpness is good I must say it's easily beaten in colour and character by my old Minolta 50/1.4 or Summicron 50/2

You need a custo made mount replacement, which can be expensive and/or time consuming and requires specialist tools. The 50/1.8 Zuiko is known as one of the best "slower" 50's out there, a very good performer. However, it's still just a slow 50mm, so in my opinion not worth the great effort to make it work on an a-mount camera.

I think most of the f2 Zuikos are quite special, and worth the fuss, but again that is just my opinion. I certainly did enjoy 21/1 on the a900.

gsaronni: Did you not move to Nikon? I'm confused, perhaps it wasn't you...

Thanks for the reply, I used a 50/1.8 Zuiko on Oly E300 and I enjoyed the results, the lens was very nice made and the manual focus ring was very smooth

Finally I kept here, I had a look to the D7000 and 16-85 VR and the camera was a bit less pro than the A700 and focusing was not so fast as I expect, at least the D300s is much better, so I dont see the excuse to get a D7000. I thought about the D300s but for my kind of shooting the results would have been similar to the ones I get with my A700(same sensor too)

Maybe the Nikon D7000 is an overhyped camera, and the 16-85VR is not better than my CZ 16-80

So finally I got a new A580 for only 500€, the sensor is a big improvement over the A700 one, and the JPGs are much better. The problem is the camera was backfocusing badly and I had to send it to repair, today I will receive it and I hope my 100/2 and 50/1.4 can perform as they should

Changing systems is always a bad thing, I hope in some years be able to get one OVF FF like A900 and I am served, maybe the SLTs are not for me, at least today. I like LV, but I like OVF too

The registration distance is quite close. By replacing the mounts you should be able to get infinity focus (probably slightly beyond) - or you can do as I did above and hold the lens in place with the OM bayonet sitting within the alpha one (a bit fiddly).

I had to operate the DoF button on the lens to get it to stop down...
